I saw that and I think they could have made some mention of it being Hiroshima Day (although it would have been difficult to do tastefully and without offense)

hmmm...that'd be one to puzzle over...how to do that one...

[edit]I know! It came to me in a black-pill induced hallucinagenic dream! You could do the normal google logo with little paper cranes drapped in strings over it...that's appropriate, tasteful, and is garanteed not to cause offence, but it is also the universal thingy that gets done for hiroshima day.[/edit]

just thought I'd point out that andy warhol is a talentless hack and a tool.

give the audience enough drugs, kiss enough ass, and you can be as pointless and self aggrandizing as you want I guess...

Yeah, that's right "asshole"
.

but I'll rephrase/clarify. He had talent. He was a good illustrator.

But....then he got these delusions of grandeur and produced some of the most useless things the art world has ever seen.

Art really isn't "usefull/useless," its how you see it and its sureality, Andy was sureal and it was different that was why people liked him.

But once again...

Hmmmmmmmhmmmm...

Don't think you'll find any Warhol amongst these but you just may find out what surrealism is. Look for Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dali, Vladimir Kush.

Warhol's right up there with Jackson Pollack

I am sorry, I really don't know that much about Andy except that he is an established artist in the 70's of matirial items... But like I said everyone has their own views and thoughts on different styles of art and to me his was really more funny than real...

Once again! Hmmmmmhmmmm....

I dunno if Warhol was talentless. I mean he was one hell of a self-promotion machine

InSider it's hard to talk about Warhol without knowing much about him. He admittedly had a stable of artist's creating many of his works which he would then sign and sell as his own so his own talents were always in doubt. He actually made most of his bones as a commercial illustrator.

Though his artistic talent may be questions he was undoubtedly a cultural icon of the seventies, of course being an icon of the disco era isn't necessarily much to write home about.

I personally love the fact that he was killed by a member of S.C.U.M (the Society for Cutting Up Men). sounds like something out of a comic book.

Killed by?

Well sorta...he was shot by a member anyway. Remember, Lili Taylor only shot andy warhol.

hehe

"On June 3rd, 1968, Valerie Solanis, a rejected superstar, came into The Factory and shot Andy three times in the chest. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, but after having his chest cut up and being given open heart massage, he survived. Valerie Solanis turned herself in that night and was put in a mental institution. She was later given a three year prison sentence. After recovering Andy Warhol continued to work. He founded inter/VIEW magazine in 1969 (they changed the name to Interview in 1971), published The Philosophy of Andy Warhol: From A to B and Back Again in 1975 and continued to paint portraits until his death in 1987. "

And yeah, he was talentless (aside from a certain illustrative zeal) and if he was a surrealist, then Salvador must be rolling in his melting coffin.

But he was popular....and after all, we all know that the public's tastes are always spot on.

Jackass.

No, insider.

Art can most certainly be useful/useless.

Art can be a useful tool to communicate. It can be used to express things that a person would otherwise be unable to express. It can be a useful process of therapy.

It can be ugly useless crap created by a talentless egomaniac and idolized by a bunch of coked out publicity whores.

And andy's *life* may have been surreal, but his "art"........?

No.

That has got to be one of the funniest things I've heard in a while!

Now Pollock, that was some good stuff. Anyone like Rothko? (sp?) For some reason I really like the stuff that he did.

I'd say he had talent in the beginning and then just got lazy, I was watching a documentry on the guy a few weeks ago, and they show'd his paintings which were pretty good, but later in life he started making films, and I heard the guy say right there on the documentry that "I used to paint, but painting is too difficult, with the camra I just turn it on and walk away" So I'd say he was more like a lazy genious...well he was genious before but then he got lazy.
