Lord_F: Ah, that's what I was afraid of... so no swapping out holds and combat computers... drat. On the positive side, though, that means I'm going to find very few people coming along with 150 combat computers, which makes my bunker even better! (In fact, now that I think about it, the fewer combat computers that most people will be carrying around is probably why the max bunker level was dropped to 20...)
Raptor: Oh, I know it wasn't intentional... I just got a little freaked out when I saw that someone had been in my sector--and had nudged a depot in there, which means that someone had discovered my bunker. I felt better after I checked the FAQ, but I was still in "freaked out" mode when I posted.
WM: Clean and convenient sounds very good. I've tried to use the graphical client, but it's so.... painfully... slow... So I just stick to the web interface.

You slip quietly down the stairs and into a nearby starship.

LOL i couldn't believe that girl!!!!! if i could have reached through the computer i would have slapped her!
if i find her ship i'm going to blow it up!!!! lol lil wench!
ok...on the news front....there's not much. apparently, from what i understood, the horde got one of the GTD ships...does anyone know for sure??
i wasn't online when it happened....but apparently it was a 'revenge' killing.....
also, they don't plan on touching the YEP team or the WHY team.....they are only concerned with BFB. so unfortunately, that kinda buggers what i had in mind....but if i get enough figs....my plan still may work! i've switched most of my ships over to hyper ships and nearly all of them have 10cc each. so i should be able to take out quite a few players!
i also had to dismantle all my bases and move all my figs tonight because i got a tip that someone was after me....and since they gave the correct info about my team....i figured they were being honest. it's something i was planning on doing...just not this soon.
ok...i think that's all the info....
velvet....you're down near the same place i am (or you were before you were destroyed) you're more than welcome to park your ship with one of mine....dunno how much good it would do....but it's an option anyways.

OZN is still in third place, but we are closing in on WHY...

btw im having good success with planting homing devices in random sectors and pickin up prey. bout one a day, and an occasional OZN locks on for good luck, i also notice it happens the other way around alot, so scrape ur hulls b4 u got to sleep...

SAI-LENS ?? Can't find anything on you, haha. You find a super-stealth ship and aren't telling anyone?
Just a thought, but what do ya'll think of doing some "team swapping" in the last couple days? For instance, take the highest 16 ships of all of ours, and put them in OZN, to see if we can maybe take the top spot of the teams? It would take a fairly coordinated effort, so I'm not real sure if it'd be more trouble than it's worth...
But what does anyone else think?
And velvetrose, you might look into joining FRA (although you can't move your starbase), as there's only 7 in there right now.

i want to know how to get a ship that you can't get info on.....i've been looking everywhere for info on this guy and couldn't figure out why there was no info....
velvet: apply to the FRA team....we could use more players on that one...
WELL......it seems all my lying and sneaking has paid off....the horde asked me to join their team in the next game! i told them i'd think about it....didn't want to seem too eager also...we flattened the BFB team tonight...was actually kinda cool. so, i'm going to spend the next two or three days building up figs (i have 120k right now). then i'll start working on the other two teams
LF: that's probably not a bad idea...though, i would like to wait til emps gets back and see what he thinks also.

me and my alter ego atzduhc terrorized IAA... somewhat. Took out starbases at 87631, 85722, 85799. And now several ships lay there unguarded in each one. I did place a few homing devices.. and attacked one with only a couple hundred fighters.. but once again fuel went low and i had to stop having fun. 93937 still has a major butt starbase at it too owned by PIMONKEY.

WM: here's a site for the manual, that might be able to help you out with the rankings and scoring and such: http://www.geocities.com/kirellii/manual.html
even though i'm not one of the top players, my team is one of the top teams...so i'll tell ya what i've learned this far.
What type of equipment? a good bare minimum when starting out is a tractor device, stats module, super computer and autoscoop and a black hole orbiter (so you don't get sucked up). upgrade your ship and holds to the next highest level asap and then stay there until you've built up enough money/bases/bunkers/figs. that way you can use the ship with the highest efficiency (sp?) and less bays. when deciding to upgrade your ship to a hyper ship or a stealth ship, you need to take some things into consideration. with a hyper ship you can boost into other galaxies and it only costs you 20,000 grams of fuel and don't have to worry about having bays open or money for booster rockets, but if you have a stealth ship and you're trading at $1500/kg fuel you can make more money (about $3000) more per trading session just buying rocket boosters and saving the 20,000 grams of fuel. but, it's a pain to make sure that you always have a bay open or have a rocket booster with you, not to mention then finding a good trading post that you can buy boosters at for a reasonable price. also, you need to think about how many bays you're going to need. you obviously will need the min. 5, but if you're going to have loads of figs then you're going to want to have either sheilds or combat computers or both. you can only have 10 each of those. so that would be 25. but if you're planning on defending and not attacking, then you wouldn't need the combat computers and could just go with the sheilds. so then you'd only need 15. but then you may want a scout launcher, which can save you fuel in the long run, by scouting sectors with more planet/port combos etc. it really depends on what kind of game you're playing....
how do you go about deciding how to trade? well, it's always more profitible to autoscoop whenever possible.
where to trade? i've been told definately do NOT trade alot in the sectors where you're hiding. it's usually better to do it in a different galaxy, though it can be a pain to find one with good planet/ports, which is where a scout would come in handy. i haven't tried that too much though because if you get a good farm going downstream from your base and have all of your upstream stuff covered, then you should be fairly safe from attack.
when to trade? well...if you want money, you have to trade. it's silly to go running around the galaxy and not trading and wasting all that fuel....so trading all the time is good.
how do you use your fuel? how much? at the beginning, i wasn't real good with using my fuel wisely, but i would say now, i only use my fuel for trading or attacking. otherwise i just sit in one spot. i also don't drag my figs around with me, as they lower your efficiency.
how do you decide to convert money and iron to fighters? really, that's up to you when you decide you want to do it. i think a good minimum of figs to have guarding your base or bunker is 10k. then you really don't have to worry too much about the lesser players messing with you, but you do tend to become a target of the bigger players. as i said before, just don't go dragging them around with you when you're trading.
how do you know when it is a good idea to attack? i don't attack people (usually) unless i am either very well hidden or i think i could withstand an attack. it's a good idea to have an 'indy' (independant ship) to do all your attacking with, as it can't be traced back to you.
how do you do your book keeping? Do you keep it all in your head, do you keep a lot? i keep all of my info on hundreds of pieces of paper all over my desk LOL i do try to keep all of my player info nice and orderly in a txt document and then just edit it each day. i then print a new one every few days with the updated info so it looks nice and neat. i keep track of all of the upstream sectors and what and how much stuff i have in each. i keep track of each player's type of ship and it's inventory. and i try to keep track of what sectors they are in. i also keep track of good trading posts and where i've seen other ships/bases/bunkers etc.
What is your number 1 tip for improving your score? i don't really have a number 1 tip....so here are some of the things that i learned hmmm....well, attacking is one way, though i don't know that it's a good way. it's better if you attack higher players than yourself, as it knocks them lower. don't sit on all your fuel, as only a percentage of it is calculated for your net worth. try to set up trade routes so you can go from one planet/port to another with very little fuel used. i also only autoscoop planets two or three times as that's when you get the best prices, then nudge in a new port...it costs less fuel to move a port than it does a planet. it's also not a bad idea to have a wormhole to another galaxy....it's spendy at first, but if it's a galaxy that has good trading, and all your ships can use it...then you can make that money back in the long run.

Just to comment on Lacuna's tips up there:
I disagree a bit on the equipment, but perhaps that's because I have a different strategy. The only thing I would not buy would be the black hole orbiter. If you buy a nav module black holes are clearly marked, so you can avoid them easily. If you want to park near a black hole it would be useful, but I usually just stay away from them.
I would also recommend an addition to that bare minimum list: a planet locator. This is really vital if you want to go nudging depots around so you can autoscoop planets. If you have a planet locator and come upon a depot by itself, you can click "nudge depot" and then "locate planet" and it will give you an auto-pilot map to the nearest planet (usually two or three sectors away). This is much better than just randomly flying around and hoping to stumble on planet/depot combinations--not only does it take more time, but there's a far greater chance that someone has recently scooped the planet and you'll get less money from the deal.
(While we're on the subject of scooping planets, there's something that I've been meaning to mention. The FAQ recommends scooping and then auto landing/sell only combinations, but I do not think this is a good idea. The whole idea behind a stats module is to maximize your fuel/profit ratio when scooping, and by continuing to land and trade after the auto-scooping stops defeats this purpose.)
So that leaves me with an equipment set of: tractor device, stats module, super computer, autoscoop, nav module, and planet locator. That's six, which means you're not going to be able to get a freighter (which only has five equipment bays). If you really wanted to go with the freighter you might drop the nav module and then just hope you don't get sucked into any black holes, but I don't think it's worth it.
Since I'm already going with the liner, I'll pick up a sector scanner for my seventh piece of equipment. This shows enemy fighters and starbases in adjacent sectors, which is obviously a good thing. For the final three equipment bays I would go with either shields or combat computers, depending on whether you're adopting an offensive or defensive posture. My ship right now has one shield and two combat computers, but if I had known what I was doing when I bought them, I would have just bought three shields. I could always sell the combat computers, but that would mean losing money (however small an amount it may be).
That's about all I have to add. I was 37th last time I checked, but I've probably slipped a bit since then. I, too, wasted a lot of time and fuel in the beginning, before I figured out what I was doing, but I've managed to make up for it since then. These days my profit per kg of fuel ratio usually comes out in the $1600-$1750 range.
Lacuna's advice is good. What you do ultimately depends on what your strategy is.

Hehe... yeah, I learned pretty early on, because the nav module was one of the first things I got. I went through a black hole once, just for the heck of it, and it destroyed a bunch of my fighters. I avoided them after that.
Oh, another thing I wanted to mention (but forgot to): attacking other players does not actually increase your score--but it does lower the other player's score. For every point you lose in attacking you get a reputation point, which means that your score stays the same, but for every point you lose defending you only get half a reputation point, so your score goes down if you get attacked. So, relatively speaking, your score does go up--but only in relation to the player you attacked. Important difference. (I got this info from the crappy music page, by the way.)
Oh, and thanks a bundle for the manual link. I knew there was a manual around somewhere, but I didn't know where. It's a great help!

since all the killing i've done over the last two days, i'm down to 107k figs....should have it back up in a couple days though. not too worried...i've managed to hide pretty well except my one player that's near the OZN area....
the horde has no one to go after now, except the OZN team, obviously, i'll be doing everything i can to prevent that and letting everyone know when they need to move. i'll post it here...and for those of you that have me on ICQ i'll Q you.

suho: i took a page from you and got planet locators for all my ships....my $/fuel went up substancially....thanx for that!
also, for those of you with an itchy trigger finger:
183499 #7 base [3200] ZYPREXA [WHY]
180440 #7 base [3200] TINMAN [HGI] (please don't use the OZN of FRA players for this one)
29531 - BREAK with 3577 figs [asleep]
26035 - PHONETICALLYPOET 100 figs
these next 3 are ones that i have homing devices on so i don't know how big they are...but am assuming they're small:
127675 - SPICEDNUTMEG
125351 - GOOD NIGHT
180356 - I STAND ALONE [BOB]

Has anyone noticed that we have company in our area (The Ozone Federation, that is)? Kirellii has joined the game late and is trying to establish a presence in our galaxy. Not someone I want to mess with, but she's got a level 1 starbase that lies along one of the routes to my starbase and bunker. I forgot to write down the coordinates, but I'm sure I'll run past it again tomorrow...
Yes, I know it would be easy to kill, but the last thing I want to do is piss people off right now. Should I just hope she doesn't bother me or should I go on the offensive? There's still six days left...

It looks like Lac and Suho have the strategy part figured out pretty well, so I'll just add what I have on each of my ships...
In my Freighter (140:5), I have (had, before someone blew it up) a planet scooper, a planet locator, a supercomputer, a tractor beam, and either a sector scanner or a nav module (whichever shows what's in the sectors next to you {fighters/black holes/trading posts}).
All my other ships are Liners (130:10), and have those 5, plus the sector scanner/nav module, and a stats device. Only one of my ships has any combat computers/shields, mainly because that's that much more weight I'm carrying around when trading, and if someone really wants to kill me, they will.
As for trading, just computrade until you find a depot without a planet, nudge it to the nearest sector with a planet, autoscoop, computrade, repeat. And Suho was right about not using the autoland/sellonly after autoscooping... I wrote that part in the FAQ in the first few days of the game and it works fine for clearing out a planet to make a bunker, but isn't too terribly efficient economically.
Bummer about not swapping teams in the last quarter of the game, haha. I guess that means we aren't the first to think of tryign that
[edit:
158106 Corvette: Tug Captain+9 USS SARATOGA of [UFP] with 0 fighter(s) [asleep]
159285 Corvette: Minion+0 MALFACTOR of [---] with 0 fighter(s) [asleep]
Also, if you want to get kinda picky, only nudge depots that are buying HW at at least $20 (ideal is $23-24)

Sweet, Emps. Those were the ones I was talking about. I knew she had at least a couple level 1 starbases hanging around the area, and they were kind of getting on my nerves. But I don't fly around with my fighters, and I forgot to write down the locs.
I'm just a bit baffled why she would build a few level 1 starbases and then not upgrade them...

Suho1004: grous o 10 fighters suggest some kind of spying - pos. #1 starbases are designed as some kind of test or they just aren't very good. Being a paranoid loon I'm going with them being bait - the Horde are trying to stir up trouble between us an WHY and the may have someone out there so they can go crying to them about our killing their bases but who knows......
And some more:
10 fighters in 31509, 23998 and 21281.
#1 starbases in 30367, 23312, 26620 and 23580.
all the same player and all dead.
and some guy with 0 fighters in 27655 (just because).
26620 is one is immediately upstream from 22056 where one of my team is based and it is one of the ones immediately upstream from 17142 - its pos. they have been put next to or near or various bases as a test/bait.

Well, the level 1 bases I spotted were Kirellii's, so that pretty much rules out the "not being so good" option. Bait it is then...
Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?
[Edit: Whoa... OZN is in second place now... the horde is in 4th, Lacuna is 5th, and GTD and FRA are 6th and 7th. The top three are very tight, though...]

Suho1004: Yes I think the pattern can't be ignored but who knows?
Also I saw that too - things are pretty tight there and will probably change around every time someone logs on. As I was away this weekend I had 3 ships with lots of fuel and so the extra points got us up to second. If there are other OZN members out there then concentrate on trading and if you spot WHY, YEP or HGI (and BOB) ships or bases pass thm in and we'll take them out (ships are good because they can't convert fuel to points effciently). Remember if members of other teams approach you - team OZN isn't at war with anyone (it appears the Horde are trying to make us fight each other to the death so avoid that and suggest they hunt HGI and BOB and pass in any info).
Lacuna asked me to upload the transcript I saved of here conversation when the Horde and allies (BOB mainly) were attacking Bulldozer and although I have been slack in cleaning it up and uploading it you can now read her valiant efforts here and they include my moronic giving the game away
So as you can see I Stand Alone was knee deep in all that business and if LF doesn't want him I'll have him (and Tinman's starbase too if that is left tomorrow).

Whoa... that was long... I'm still trying to figure out who everyone is in that conversation. I managed to figure out that an attack op went bad because the radio channel was compromised (never tried to use the radio, so I have no idea how that works...). But why Bulldozer? Isn't that Lord_F?

Sorry. Suho1004 dropped me a line for more explanation - as I've been following this one closely and dropping her occasional ideas and thoughts (I might even describe myself as her handler but somehow that doesn't sound right ).
Lacuna is Zeloutis as part of her team Laxgunners or something and the rest of the people are from the Horde (HGI) or BOB. They are talking about team GTD.
What had just happened was that Dan had pissed off just about everyone else in the game and the team were being hunted. Half of them had been ambushed and destroyed and they were hunting out the others (they thought we were veteran players and that Dan was a guy called Swat who appears to be some great mythical player). Bulldozer happened to be the next on the list as they had him tagged with a HD (see messages above or in the previous thread for more).
Basically they had Lacuna online and other eam members were dropping in and scrabbling fighters together to take Bulldozer out. This included an offer from I Stand Alone to get on the phone to the rest of the team.
So Lacuna had dropped me the private radio channel which is was monitoring but they got nervous and moved (I think) and then I gave things away and they moved again but Lacuna kept passing me the new number so I kept watching. I've also noted where one of my remaining ships, Icarus Falls, (which was providing some cover for Bulldozer) got one of theirs which made them awfully jumpy.

OK, I get it now. So you were Icarus Falls... that's right. Yeah, that was pretty amusing...

hahaha.. respect me, punks! In less than one month (playing only every third day or so) I've earned years of experience.
