woohoo...new thread!

ok...to scrap your hull: find a trading post, click trade, click remove upgrades and if you have a HD on you, it will say "do you want to remove 'so and so's' homing device?" then click yes! (unless it's a team mates)

It is probably best if we get scraped and then apply HDs to stop naughtiness - I had one but it was from Vkking3 who seems to be opposed o the people who have been nailing us (I got rid of it anyway).

LF: sorry to hear about that - you were doing well but I tried to wanr you and I tried to cover your back (I got Ritualistic Suicide and Peon_4) but unless you could have got rid of the HD and moved you were screwed. Thanks to Lacuna (who gets the Mata Hari Medal for Spying!!) I was able to watch their discussion (I'll upload it and post the link here) and they were drawing in numerous teams and trashing starbases to get the fighters (someone even got on the phone to other team members to see if they could help).

LF: I think getting your ass kicked by everyone in about 30 galaxies probably won't help

However, you have some great ships in OZN and it looks like things should go well for you there. We have an awful lot of starbases in that area and our team rankings are looking good too. I see two of the horde are 1 and 2 (number 1 is there due to their kicking GTD's behind!!) but they will come a cropper sometime and you could easil sneak up the rankings then

[edit: And have you got any planet stripping tips as I think we should also look at building more bunkers]

I especially love this: "we will yet fall by the wayside i fear for BFB is mighty and we are

Weary because of who?? A group of people who've never played this game before haha
But it's good to hear they are moving on... Now we can focus on more important things than surviving... Like making other people worry about surviving (Or maybe not)...

To the Ozone Federation: Ozone now has a fourth #8 starbase in 20384. I'd like to build a bunker there, but you have to get all the resources off the planet? How on earth do you do that?

Anyway, if anyone wants to camp out in 20384, feel free. So far it's just me, my #8 starbase, and 10,000 fighters. Oh, and anyone passing through can feel free to throw a homing device on me. I just checked and, fortunately, I don't have any on me yet.

[Edit: Wow, I've also shot up in the rankings... from 70 to 41. Nothing compared to Lord_F, of course... ]

Suho, Emps, anyone else interested: Stripping a planet is just a slightly modified (and more tedious process than what I put for a trading strategy in the FAQ.
First off, you need a planet (ideally with iron and alcohol under 10k, hardware isn't so important because it's easy to get rid of that). Make sure you can move it to where you want it (ie. no nebulas in the way, even though that just a slight annoyance). Depending on the amount of resources on the planet, it takes somewhere around 1mil grams AM (I think).
Now set your compuTrade for at least 4 moves, use that until you find a depot (HW, GreenPort, RockMine) and 'nudge' that back to the sector with your planet (and hope you don't hit any nebulas). Autoscoop, computrade, nudge, repeat.
The only real difference between this and just trading is when you nudge the depot, you go to the same sector everytime, rather than just the nearest planet.
Since iron is the hardest one to trade off the planet (as you'll find out if you try to strip a planet of 25,000+ iron), I'd recommend advertising the sector your trying to strip a planet in here, and everyone use that planet next time they make fighters.

If you can convince someone to help you strip a planet, it should go by relatively fast.
And when you start getting into this, nebulas will really start to tick you off

I'm about to work on a couple ships, so I'll drop a HD your way Suho. (Might even start working on your planet, haha)

[edit: Well, it wouldn't let me attach a HD to you Suho because we're on the same team... What's the trick to that? One of my ships has a HD from chudtza and they are on our team...
Just use a HD launcher and set one in an empty sector and hope someone hits it maybe?

LF: Ahhhhh bring in new depots once you have traded out another one.

Another small tip - after autoscooping you can keep trading so go for autoland (unless the planet is a hardware one when you have to use l to land manually because hw is the first commondity picked up with the first autoland) you can then sellonly at the depot and keep doing this (if you have a hardware trading depot then after the first landing you can now use autoland is it will now pick up alcohol or iron - depending on what you selected on the first manual landing). If things work right (and it helps if you have a little traded depot) you can continue this for quite a while (I found one planet/depot combination where I could get 2.5k for each trade which was nice).

If people could try scooping 17142 and see what we can do - I might shuffle depots through there to freshen things up a little

wonderful!!

with the horde working on BFB that will knock them out of the running pretty quickly. assuming of course, they've got enough to do it between themselves and a couple allie teams. they should....i'll throw one or two of my players their way if they don't. it'll knock my lil team down, but it'll keep our other teams up there!
then, on the last couple days of the game, i'll use my lax team (or what's left of it) to work on whatever team is in the #1 place. that should leave it for the ozn team.

right now, my lax team has 15 starbases (all 6,7 and 8) and the team as a whole has 109k figs. towards the last few days i should have nearly 200k figs (if i'm not attacked or go hunting too many people) and i was thinking of salavaging my bases the last couple of days so i could increase the number of figs. if anyone has any suggestions or a better way for me to do things...please let me know

Nifty! Thanks, Lord_F... and yes, if anyone needs to make any fighters, feel free to strip my planet clean!

Not sure about the homing device. No one has taken an interest in me so far, so I guess I'll just make regular stops at trading posts before heading home each day, just to make sure.

[Edit: Interesting... I'm not sure how this happened, but this is the report on my planet now:

There are 4386 holds of hardware
There are 95 holds of alcohol
There are 9044 holds of iron

Do the resources slowly build back up? I guess I'll have to start pushing some depots around...]

[Edit2: OK... I've now got a bunker on that planet. It's only level 4 so far, because I only start with 200k or so of antimatter today. I'll have to go back out this evening and do some trading so I can build it up.

Another question: does my starbase help with the defense of the bunker, or can they be destroyed separately?]

Scraping HD's: After Bulldozer was thoroughly wiped out, I've been trying to make a habit of stopping by a trading post before I log out. This would probably be wise, even if you have a friendly HD on your ship, just to make sure every few days at least

OK... I was just reading through the crappy music page, and it says that 25 is the max level for bunkers (well, it doesn't explicitly say that, but it keeps talking about level 25 bunkers, so...). He also mentions something about buying the maximum of 200 holds. Did I miss something here? I have a stealth liner, which, as far as I know, is in the top tier of ships--and that can hold a maximum of 140 holds. Where is this 200-hold ship hiding?

Anyway, now that I have a bunker I have a place to store my holds... which means I can start buying up combat computers and storing them away for the final days...

And then the Guardian Angel will come forth on the wings of wrath, bearing a flaming sword in his right hand and a shield of righteousness in his left hand, to utterly destroy those who would stand in the way of the Ozone Federation!

In this game, the max a bunker can be is level 20 (3:1 ratio)

LF: A few questions. On the crappy music page it says you can switch out holds and combat computers, leaving one set in the bunker when you need to use the other set for trading/combat. When I'm in my bunker, though, I only have the option to leave bots and AM... is it possible to leave other things there? If so, how?

I also noticed you have a starbase and bunker in 22945 (two upstream from me). I read (again, crappy music page) that nudging depots out of sectors with bunkers in them is a good idea, so people won't try to scoop your planet and discover the bunker. Then again, you've got a starbase there as well, so I don't know if that would deny people entrance anyway... I'm still trying to get the hang of the military aspect here.

bunkers are for keeping AM if you can't use it all while playing, also for hiding.
take out all ports and depots within 4 moves coming into the port above your bunker, not outgoing though. that's to avoid computraders from accidentally discovering you.

suho, i can understand storing fuel (AM) for the final days, but how will storing other stuff help?

Suho1004

Well, the idea is to buy up a whole load of combat computers (like a hundred or so) and then swap these out with the holds. So when I go trading I can have my holds, and when I need to destroy people I can come back to my bunker, drop off my holds and pick up my combat computers.

That's the way it's supposed to work--or at least that's what the crappy music page says. It is possible that the game has been changed since the crappy music page was written, since I don't see any way right now to drop off anything but bots and AM.

As for saving up AM for the final days... I'm not sure I see the point in that. Wouldn't it be more efficient to earn as much money as possible with that fuel so you can buy fighters (if you're going on a rampage)?

Anyway, if anyone else has figured out a way to store holds, combat computers, etc. (in other words, anything but bots and AM) in a bunker, let me know.

take out all ports and depots within 4 moves coming into the port above your bunker

On that note, I deliberately cleared 20384 of its depot... but I noticed that someone (ahem, Raptor) pushed a depot back in there. This is a request to all: please do not push any depots into 20384, and if you do accidentally push one in, please push it back out again. Leaving a depot next to my planet is just asking for someone to try to autoscoop it, at which point they will discover my bunker... and that is not a good thing.

[Edit: Oh, and unless you're really patient, clearing out all depots within four moves of your bunker--and keep those paths cleared--is pretty much impossible.]

Suho - (Bunkers) - Actually, I haven't tried to store anything there... Just using them to hide myself. However, the way I interpreted the crappy music page is that the game had several different settings when the page was made.
ie. Your ship had X number of slots to put things... Not X : Y slots, like it is now, where there are X slots that can hold anything except holds, and Y slots that can hold holds. So perhaps in a previous incarnation of the game, a ship that had 150 total slots, could hold 150 holds, or 150 combat computers, etc etc, which would make storing these in bunkers very useful. But since, like you said about the bunkers (can't store anything except AM and bots), and the X : Y number of slots, I think a lot of the game specific info on that page is irrelevent now.
(But I could be wrong... Wouldn't be the first time this year )

Clearing out 4 sectors in front of your base - hahahahahahahaha... Well... Yea, that would be very useful... And in a couple of the galaxies, it might even be a somewhat reasonable task... However, since we're in a '5 exit, 1 way', this is far more than unreasonable...
There are 5 sectors that link directly to each sector... so one sector deep from yours would be 5 sectors (not so bad)... However, each of those have 5 entrances... At 2 sectors deep, you now have 30 sectors to clear out... At 3 sectors deep, you would need to empty 155 sectors... And at 4 deep, 680 sectors... Noticing a pattern anyone?
sigma(from i=1 -> n) of 5^i ==also written== (5 + 5^2 + 5^3 + ... + 5^n)
Where n is the depth you want to go from a particular sector.
Now I'll be expecting a complete proof by induction before the day's over

Suho - It wasn't deliberate, but I'll be sure to check 20384 anytime I've nudged a port around the galaxy.

GTD: I've started a starbase at 125800, but I'm thinking of moving that (kind of a conspicuous location, yes? )

well, it seems that the WHY team 'just wants to be left alone'.....they want to move onto the 200 game so they aren't concerned with messing with anyone in this game. this was told to me by the HGI team. i saw the two talking this morning and asked what was up with that. so the WHY team wants to get all of their ships in the top 15%. if i'm right...then that's the top 135 (roughly).
i don't know if this info is really of any value....i, personally, don't care what they want! their team needs to be knocked out of the top spot so our team can get in!
also, the horde is planning on staying in the 100 game. they have no desire to move onto 200. at least that's what they said.....

I just wanted to post a little update. I have been working on my SST consol a little more. It is not yet desireable for use, but it is making some headway. I figure in another 2 or 3 weeks I should have a nice little prototype done that will give some nice benifits to your play. Clean like the telnet yet clickable like the web. From the prototype the sky is the limit. Once I get the basic parsing down I am sure I can come up with a lot more.

warmage....i can't look at what you made...i'm sure it's only cuz i'm an idiot! but i'm sure you've done good!

also, have a bit of a tip, it's something i wish i would have known sooner! since, the only time a stealth ship is stealth, is when you're online, it provides no saftey when you're not online....so it's better to have a hyper ship....you can at least jump around in different galaxies and don't have to by a wormhole or booster to go somewhere. just my opinion anyways....
