Ladies and Gentelmen, dear inmates of unspecified gender,

I am pleased to announce the 'Grail aka the New Asylum - Open Beta'!

Over a year we've laboured now, and tonight y'all shall be able to have a look, a sneak peak, so to speak, at those fruits of many sleepless hours.

The Doc asked me, and I coded and recruited and steered those I had recruited into the, hopefully, right direction.

There are some major changes, compared to the asylum. Have a look at the new features.

I've imported the old Asylum this morning - your logins and everything should be working just like they do here.

Please have a look at the current todo list.
Some things we know about and they'll be handled before the grail replaces the Asylum.

There is no timeframe yet for the migration of all the asylum. It depends on how well the beta goes. Be assured, nearly all the old links will stay intact.

There's a faq page at the grail, called grail for you to post and read about the grail.

BTW, about the code being smaller in Firebird (http://grail.coonabibba.de/19059) - the default size for monospaced fonts in Firebird is 13px.

Not bad. I'm happy to see a doctype, and sad to see lots of extraneous tables, but the forum itself looks pretty good. I'm sure I'll have a lot of nitpicky things to solve during the beta. =) Where do we submit bugs/feature requests?

Tyberius Prime: Congrats for the Grail!

I like the new icons, but I couldn't find their explanation. In the actual Asylum, the and are explained at the bottom. If that feature ( of showing the active threads ) remains it'd helpful to put a legend.

The new Post Reply pannel is REALLY cool. Putting it directly at the bottom of a thread speeds up the flow. The COPY, PASTE, and + are really cool. Hum... will there be a - button to decrease the size of the textarea for the users who went crazy on the + ? Anyway, I could still use my favelet for that purpose.

I've looked an archived page ( http://grail.coonabibba.de/16411 ) and apparently the linkword is set to TRUE by default which creates some links in the code posted by Petskull. Ok he didn't nest his code in the appropriate UBB tags so I don't know if the linkwords are ignored there.

BTW, is it possible to keep the \n ( by replacing the \n by <br />\n ) in the UBB [ code ]..[ /code ] tags to make the content copy/pastable ? 10.000.000 thanks in advance.

I wonder how you all could keep yourselves from posting at least one testing thread over there up to now...

We decided not to have a [-] button as the size is automatically resetted when you refresh the page... though nothing of that is set in stone yet.

kuckus: Thank you for your insight. I had only seen the everywhere so far. Now I've seen the others, and I must say ... WOW!

For the - button, I asked that for the authors of monster posts or of pieces of code. That button wouldn't take many space, but it's not a must have all the more that a favelet ( can ) do the trick.

To test, I've only played with the Post Reply, and edited one of my post. I didn't wanted to polute the brand new Holy Grail with some rusty Test threads

Yannah: Yeah, sooner or later the asylum will be run by the new software. But that'll probably take another couple of months or so. Lot's of details to straighten out.

One suggestion for the UBB code: The codes for quote and code could be shortened down to [ q] and [ c] respectively in my opinion, at least as an alternative.

I don't know ow much you care about semantics and stuff. Maybe it's not really that important on a forum but here are some things I saw with just a quick look:

• No <code> tag for code.
• "quote:" is inside the blockquote tag. <hr> tags should be replaced by borders I think.
• id="floatr", id="footer_center", etc.

But as I said, those things probably doesn't matter really much in this case.

I'll post more if I find any.

well, excuse me if I'm a bit dum, but there is only one footer that is in the center, what's wrong with giving it such an id?

As for the other suggestions, we'll look into them.

TP, an ID should be descriptive, and not reflect the style of the element, but those are minor things and not something that should be focused on.

Both good ideas, esp. as the current styles don't seem to work quite the same in all browsers for whatever reasons anyway.

I don't feel that [q] and [c] tags are really necessary - it's easy enough to press ALT+Q / ALT+C if you're in a hurry

or shift-esc-letter if you're using opera...

Oh, didn't know about the shorcuts. Doesn't seem to work at the moment though.

Congratulations all, on a job well done!! All hail the new Grail!!! After nearly two years of lurking, what better way to celebrate than taking up a brand new cell in a brand new Jail, er Grail!

My 2 cents; love the old drop down menu, but ohh well; new cell.....new life out of those comforting shadows....might as well learn some new habits.

Sometimes in both, this one and especially in beta I see alot of this green lines surounding borders. They usually go vertically and horizontal lines are like RBG slashes...why does that happen?
