| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Inside THE BOX | posted 07-09-2003 14:52 OK, this is the second time this has come up at work and I can't believe it's even an argument. (More accurately, I can't believe I'm the only one on my side on this.) |

| Maniac (V) Mad Scientist with Finglongers From: Cell 53, East Wing | posted 07-09-2003 14:56 Its Arr (with as many 'r's as the situation requires) - plain and simple, no messing around, no arguements, end of story. |
| Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea | posted 07-09-2003 14:57 You know, I must admit that I never really thought all that much about this, but hearing your argument I guess I would have to agree with you. Especially if the "gh" in "Aaarrgh" is pronounced. Honestly, I've never pronounced the "gh," so it never really made that much of a difference to me. |
| Maniac (V) Mad Scientist with Finglongers From: Cell 53, East Wing | posted 07-09-2003 15:01 And as it is coming up soon the 'International Talk Like a Pirate Day' sites have some good guides: |
| Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: | posted 07-09-2003 15:21 Pirates come from all sorts of different countries. |
| Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea | posted 07-09-2003 16:01 I thought it was the Queen's English... oh well. |
| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Inside THE BOX | posted 07-09-2003 16:13 Emps -- great links. And I forgot about the "yarr" variation. That to me, is perfectly acceptable, and would go along with warjournal's dialect argument. |
| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: Den Haag, Netherlands | posted 07-09-2003 17:57 i guess if you asked a pirate if he wanted a glass of grog he'd answer .. "oooh aaarrr" ... but if you stuck him with a sword he's probably say "AAAARRRRGHHHH!!" .... |
| Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: 100101010011 <-- right about here | posted 07-09-2003 18:29 I have to say I think Arrrr is more appropriate but while sitting here in my cube I can make it work with a very soft g in there. |
| Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea | posted 07-10-2003 01:46 Ah, well, if the "gh" is pronounced, then I'd definitely have to vote against that. Although I think trib may have the best response in this thread so far. |
| Nervous Wreck (II) Inmate From: | posted 07-10-2003 01:53 Well trib states it clearly, which almost takes all teh fun out of the discussion |
| Bipolar (III) Inmate From: The Lost Grove | posted 07-10-2003 05:36 Arrgh! = Onomatopoeic expression of a groan. |
| Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: buttcrack of the midwest | posted 07-10-2003 06:22 ~sheesh~ Don`t you people know any Pirates ? |
| Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea | posted 07-10-2003 09:46 I thought 'Pirates of the Carribean' was a ride at Disney World. Or maybe I'm confused... |
| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: Milwaukee | posted 07-10-2003 14:22 Speaking of which, I just saw the movie last night and must firmly recommend it. Johnny Depp as the slightly-insane Captain Jack Sparrow; the special effects and gruesome humor on the zombie pirates; the swordfights and nautical duesl; excellent stuff. |
| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Houston, TX, USA | posted 07-10-2003 16:29 it is suho, you're not confused. its just also a new feature film, along with a variety of other comic heroes and novelizations this summer as we've apparently come to the end of all fresh ideas |
| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: The Astral Plane | posted 07-10-2003 19:00 I too, have seen the movie and highly recommend it. Did anyone else see the preview for Haunted Mansion by chance? Is Disney making a movie for all of their interesting theme rides? |
| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Houston, TX, USA | posted 07-10-2003 19:57 ooh, yeah, i do want to see LXG. and finding nemo again |
| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: Milwaukee | posted 07-10-2003 20:20 Speaking of Disney rides... Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. Free, not too long, good read. One of those "believable future" doohickeys. |
| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: columbus, ohio, usa | posted 07-11-2003 00:32 The only time a pirate would say Aaaarg! is if he put a cutlass through his foot. Then it would be Aaargh! *thud* Aaaargh! *thud* AAAAAARGH! *thud* as he hopped around on one foot. |
| Bipolar (III) Inmate From: Adanac | posted 07-11-2003 01:20 How frivolous and insignificant this place has become. |
| Maniac (V) Inmate From: Seoul, Korea | posted 07-11-2003 01:34 Fig: Ah, thank you for the information. There's a slight lag in the time it takes movies to reach Korean theatres, unless they're really big ones (like Star Wars or LOTR). |
| Bipolar (III) Inmate From: New York City | posted 07-11-2003 01:37 "Arrr". |

| Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: In your Hard Drive; C: | posted 07-11-2003 08:15 Yeah, I think Pirates say "Arrr" pretty much than "Arrgh"...I think "arrgh" is for another thing. |

| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Massachusetts, USA | posted 07-15-2003 04:44 I haven't bothered to read what anyone said here, but I went and saw PotC opening night and loved it. I then went and saw it Saturday and Sunday with two separate groups of friends. I think it's the movie of the summer. Nothing I've seen yet, nor anything I expect in the near future, is better than it. |
| Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Houston, TX, USA | posted 07-15-2003 07:46 saw it sat night, really just a fun fun movie. johnny depp is brilliant and steals the show. definitely a must-see. |
