How many Asylumites use Quark? What exactly does Quark allow you to do? I come from a PC environment and am unfamiliar with Quark. Many jobs I've interviewed for require knowledge of Quark. Is it that great of a program? I never hear any praise or bashing of Quark...Can some of you Mac heads help me out?

quark is great for layouts. fantastic for layouts, really. it's vector based, but not as much of a hog of memory as illustrator... just fantastic. i can't say enough good things about quark.

hey Bougda, Quark is a pretty powerfull page layout program,
ads, broshures, books anything to be output to print.
Most high end printers include this with the top 3 apps for print
PS, illustrator, Quark.
Steve might be able to elaborate more than me about Quark.

I have it on my mac, but don't really use it much.
A while back I did a cover design for a whole book that was layed out in Quark.
There are also many extensions you can add to enhance the workflow in Quark...Marks extensions I think they are called.

Yep, I used to use Quark a lot back in college. We used it for the school newspaper. Great for layouts like that. It's quite powerful as said before. Personally, I really enjoyed using it. I didn't think it was *extremely* hard to use...... like most things, it just takes a little time and playing...

Yep - Steve can elaborate, but don't have the time now. Suffice it to say it is pretty much the industry standard for page layout, from a one page ad to a 500 page catalog, and everything in between. InDesign is growling at the heels, but the user base is enormous. Good tool, but lots of people don't like corporate Quark. They still earn their living with the software though. Don't think it's exclusive to Mac though - is that possible? I'm sure there's a windows version.

InDesign is Adobe's answer to Quark.

I used to work for a Newspaper that used Quark extensively and now I work with Marketing people who use Quark quite a bit. The biggest complaint about Quark? No customer service. The people at Quark knew that there weren't any real alternatives out there and so they treated their client base like crap, offered little support, and have not improved their basic program in a long time.

InDesign can do everything that Quark can do and it works better with other Adobe products than Quark ever will. Hopefully Quark will realize that they can't treat their customers like crap and stay in business and hopefully they'll start improving their product. Otherwise, Quark may be looking at its downfall.

InDesign and Quark are designed for the printed page where Dreamweaver and GoLive are for web pages
