Preserved Topic: multiple copys of a layer ?

is there anyway you can create multipy copys of a layer, without having to dublicate the layer 10 times

any ideas on getting multiple copys?

I would like to know too, I just tryed every thing and if there's a way I didn't find it - found other cool things but not that!

Just right click the New Layer button at the bottom of the Layer palette as many times as you need. Beats the snot out of dragging the Layer to it 10 tens.

the thing with the New Layer button at the bottom of the Layer palette is it makes new empty layers.

select all ( CTRL+A ) paste ( CTRL+V)
It pastes it into a new layer. CTRL+V as many times as you need to.

That is so odd. The other night it was copying the Layer and not just making a new one. I can't seem to reproduce it.

A step by step instruction

1. Press CTRL+J

ZOX - that mill make a new layer from a selection. So you really need a 2-step process, the first being "select all".

Depending on whether you do life with a Mac or a PC, it's:

1) Command + a or Control + a
2) Command + j or Control + j

Steve, that is true if you have a selection before you need to deselect or select all first.
But if you have no selection it will just make a new copy of the whole layer. (or at least it does in the ps5.5 that I am at right now)

Cool! I never tried that. Always made a new layer from a selection.

Works for me with out a selection. PS 5.5 over here and all is well.

Or you could try to record an action - duplicating the layer - and put it on a hotkey. Phong did something similar for gaussian blurs, putting them on hotkeys F5-F8, which is quite useful.

I always right click on a layer I want to duplicate in a layers pallete and just click on duplicate layer.
