I'm trying to make a website using DReamweaver 4 which I just purchased. Does anyone know any tutorials that could help teach me the basics? Also, some tutorials for after I learn the basics. Thanks!

Tutorials for Dreamweaver? I thought the idea of those WYSIWYG editors were to eliminate learning. Oh well. I don't know of any tutorials but heres a link the the Macromedia Dreamweaver : Visual QuickStart Guide . I've never read the book but most of the books in the series are pretty decent. Check over at macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver for some added information.

mm, yeah....honestly....can't imagine tutorials for dreamweaver...

if you'd like to learn how to write the code, I can give some good links for that...but learning how to use a code generator......can't help you.

Although the question has nothing to do with pure DHTML/JavaScript, I think that it is more appropriate in that board...

PART Two:

For a Good editor look here

Just kidding... but Dreamweaver has some problems. The code it generates is hard to read and even harder to debug. There is not that much knowledge about tyhat program here. I sugest let altavista or yahoo dig up some info for you. just search for "dreamweaver"

anyway welcome on board

I use dreamweaver all the time to build complicated tables and general layout, it makes great code, what are you snortin'? You must have it confused with frontpage or fireworks.

Having used DW, I can tell you though that you will have to get in their and do some code tweaking of your own, just to get things perfect I suppose if you were a master of the DW "API" you might not have to, but I'm not You will hate yourself if you don't take the time to learn html.

Cheers

uh oh... somethin tells me that people dont like Dreamweaver users. I gotta admit, it makes life easier for us folks with no time to get into code writing.... Dont get me wrong though, I really wanted to learn the code aspect of it its just a lil complicated. (to me.)

And good sites to get you going from scratch? I know a little but I really want to learn php. I messed around with it and it was pretty solid.

yeah I had a genius of a friend that hated DW and he insisted I learn PHP and basic html.... so that forced me into learning a little bit. I get overwhelmed.....

thats all.

Actually Dreamweaver with BBEdit 6 is about the most efficinet HTML editing available today. Despite what people say, Dreamweaver does not muck up code much at all (although it's javascripts suck). With configuration you can choose what and how it indents, and what code it rewrites (I choose to re-write nothing of course). I am a perfectionist when it comes to code, and I can honestly say that DW/BBEdit combo is almost perfect. All DW needs is an option to maintain indentation levels. If it did that then I could use DW for the 20% of work that it does more efficiently than BBEdit, with confidence that my beautiful indented HTML structures would remain unscathed even if their content was changed in DW.

I use DW 4.0 and I love it. Easy to use, simple. Although you still need to do some tweaking on your own but the big work is already done!
