OK...Maybe I am stupid. A friend has PS 6.01 and I have PS 5.5 I am trying to tell him how to do something on ps and you need to use an alpha channel. When I make mine they always start out black. When he does it they come out white. Where is the setting to automatically change the channels so when you make them they start out black.

Thanks

He's doing something wrong. I've never started with a while alpha channel. Are you sure he's in the channels palette?

If he is, just tell him to fill it with black and start from there....

Yeah he is in the channels pallete. The way he is doing it he clicks on the arrow at the top of the pallete and selects new channels. But it also does it when he just clicks on the new channel button. In my ver 5.5 it doesnt do it. Odd.

I just played around with 6.0 and the only way I got it to create a white channel was to make a new spot color channel with the options arrow in the upper right. Whenever I clicked on the new layer button it just creates a normal channel.

Does your friend do a lot of drugs?

God I hope not..........If so they are catching. When I get home I am going to have to look at my version of 6. I think I am going to tell him to reinstall PS.

Maybe he got "selected areas" check, instead of "masked areas".

Under the "new channel controls" make sure he got "masked area" selected, because if he got "selected area "choosen he will start with a white alpha channel.

Thats in the "color indicates" in the "new channel controls".

Try that.

edit : The way he is doing it he clicks on the arrow at the top of the pallete and selects new channels. But it also does it when he just clicks on the new channel button.

does not matters, if "selected areas" is checked it will start with a white channel.
