I wanted to share some recent tips I've received through different places that email tips and tricks on a regular basis...These are for PS 6.0 btw, and are courtesy of Ben Wilmore and PlanetPhotoshop.com. They aren't mind boggling, but thought they might be of help to some

1.If you haven't found it yet, 6.0 includes a feature called Trim. This allows you to make exact-pixel crops with ease, located under the Image menu.

2.Layers Tips: To quickly delete a layer, Option-click on the Trash icon at the bottom of the Layers palette. To hide every layer but the current layer, Option-click on the Eye icon beside the layer you want to remain visible. To toggle Lock Transparency on/off, press the / key (slash). To move the current layer down in the layer stack, press Command-[ (Left Bracket). To
move it back up, press Command-] (Right Bracket).

3. If you'd like to color code a bunch of layers, then link those layers together (by clicking to the left of the preview thumbnail for each layer), choose Layer>New>Layer Set From Linked and choose the color you'd like from the dialog box that appears. Now that all the layers within the set (it looks like a folder) are color coded, you can click on the trash icon at the bottom of the Layers palette (assuming the layer set is active) and click the Set Only button when prompted. That will delete the set, but keep
the layers that were inside it and will retain the color-coding that you applied.

You can drag a set to the new set icon at the bottom of the Layers palette (it looks like a folder) to duplicate the set, but how do you duplicate multiple sets? Well, link the sets you'd like to duplicate by clicking in the area to the left of the folder icon for each set (on the layer set itself, not at the bottom of the Layers palette). Next, create a new document that is in the same mode as the one that contains the sets (RGB, CMYK, etc.). Now, use the Move tool, click in the document that contains the sets and drag over to the new document (drag from the document window, not the Layers palette). That should copy the sets to that document. Finally, drag from the new document back to the original and the sets should have been copied.

Oooohhh...those are good.

In the beginning, there was the word...and the word was 'God', although by the time it reached the other end of the phone line... the word was 'Gznd'

From what I know, there isn't one. At least that's what I was told by some of the developers at a conference. Glad this was of use to somebody.

Good stuff especially hiding all but the layer you're working on. I was working with 17 layers, tiny bits on each layer and was going nuts turning them off on off on.... thanks.

They're pretty much the same.

You still get merlin when you option-click on the pallette options.

Hold the Command button (sorry I don't know the pc version) when selecting About Photoshop to see the special screen.

Just like 5, hold the option key down to quickly scroll through the credits. Once they've gone through, Command-click on the space between the graphic and the credits to get a bunch of Adobe inside jokes.

Those are the only ones I know of for 6.

In 5.0 on the mac if you held down command when going to "about photoshop" and it would bring up the cat. You type UDO and the cat would meow. Type BURP and it would burp....I had assumed you meant something like that in 6.

Also I'd like to add that after a year on both mailing lists, I do not receive junk mail as a result of either. So if you want to sign up, do it.

Another one that`s cool if you use channels palette alot is SHIFT+ click on the channel pallette to toggle back and forth from channels to layers.

The Space Bar and Ctrl/Alt+Space Bar (Photoshop PC) gives you the Hand and Zoom tools - Handy that

Here's one thats new to me. Works like a charm in PS 6.0:

If you're working on a layer and want to change the opacity, just type the number. Make sure you type the two digits quickly so it will recognize them both, if you just type one number, say 7, it will change the opacity to 70%. Typing 0 changes it to 100%. Cool stuff!

I wanted to add another:
When moving an object or selection using your keyboard, add the shift key to move it 10 pixels at a time.

who here uses their keyboard more than their mouse?

its a problem i can't stop. i can hit 4 commands on the keyboard by the time i drag my mouse to click on the first one.
its hard showing someone how to do something when they can't watch your fingers fast enough

If you want to show someone something I'd say use the menus... But yes, I do my fair share of keyboarding. It's just faster.

Docilebob: is shift clicking on the channels palette to toggle exclusive to PS6? it doesnt seem to work in 5.5


ALSO... alt clicking on merged linked in the layers menu will make a copy of all the layers onto a new layer
:note: make the new layer first and then link all the ones you want to merge to that one then alt click and so on.

Not sure, punchdrunk, I`ve never used 5.5. I got hooked on a trial version of 5.0 and jumped straight to 6.

oh, yea. These may be too obvious, but to open the * open file* dialog, double click the bg.
also, right click the image title bar for quick access to image, canvas size, duplicate, file info, and page setup.

I am not pro but I have few things for PS6 that I like. For now I can only remember this one:

If you want to "stroke" a part of the image (put a border around it) select the area with marquette tool then open new layer then go to edit and click on stroke.

To name a new Layer as you're creating it, hold the Option/Alt key when clicking on the New Layer icon.
