What I do for mine is this...

Set your background layer to the color you want your gif to sit on.

Then create your gif.

Click and hide your background layer and then do a save for web.

In the save for web dialog select the same color as your background color for the matte color on your transparent gif.

Voila!

ok, this is probably the most commonly asked question on this forum. it would be nice if the tutorials refered to the people who ask are actually up to date! docs tutorial is nice, but requires a 3rd party plugin that is no longer available in the version that he uses, and the trial version doesnt work at all.

grr. i know ive expressed myself on this topic before. *hint hint*

If it bothers you so much, instead of whining about it use that energy to write an up to date tutorial.

is it to good to be true? an actualy transparency tutorial??? NO!

well... it needs to be done for users of ps4, ps5, ps5.5, and ps6. Have FUN! Oh, and there are quite a few ways to do it in each version.

someone on the board once told me to do this....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-create your image over a color set to R=40 G=4 B=4. (for this forum)
-make sure you have a backup file and render any text layers.
-Cntrl-*click* the top layer.... then Shift-Cntrl-*click* the rest of the layers except for your background layer.
-Go to your "channels" pallette... the second small button at the bottom loads your selection... go ahead and load it.
-You should be looking at at your new "alpha" channel... which is black and white.
-Your selection should still be active... so don't go clickin all over the damn place.
-What I usually do is to make sure white is my chosen color and then ALT-Backspace which fills the selection.. and I do it a couple of times just to add some extra white into the channel.
-Now go back to the layer pallete... make sure your image is visible again.
-go to IMAGE>MODE>Convert to Index....
-Choose adaptive and as many colors as you think will make the sig look good.
-Convert, and allow to be flattend.
-ok... FILE>EXPORT>gif89a
-select your transparency from PICK YOUR CHANNEL.... save it... and check it out over the background your want it on.

If you really wanna go the extra step.... when you are in the channels pallette, you can use a combination of gaussian blurring and levels to smooth out the edges even more.... you could also hand paint right onto the channel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

and that's what I continue to do now.

Hi...I manage to get my gifs tranparent...I just want to know...when you start a new canvas...and you give it a size of 100 by 100.
Does Photoshop save my gif according to this size even though the image I made is smaller??? I hope I'd explained this well.
