I didn't quite know what to make of it... what was the original actually?

That is the origiinal. It`s a scanning electron microscope image of an extant dinoflagellate cyst.

sorry, but my english is lacking here, the only part I understand is flagellate which would be one of those wiggly thingies bacteria use to get around.
(and I understood the picture to be the original one... just phrased my question incorrectly. sorry.)
(edit: fixing my horrible english... using adjectives instead of adverbs looks bad)

Since I still have alcohol in my blood stream too ( ), I'll tell you that "flagellate" can be a verb in English, and nice boys don't let bad girls do that to them! (Except under special circumstances on weekends.)

Originally intended to be in a cockpit, but the cockpit turned out even worse than the rest of him. Added a couple of background elements to get the idea across. I don't know, maybe he's waiting to scramble? Not intended to be photorealistic, by the way, but all criticism welcome. This was my first one done hands-on, except for the sky and the grillwork, and some slight effects around the goggles. I could have done the grillwork without filters, too, but man, that's a hard habit to break.

This is, shall we say, "idiosyncratic" at best, two weeks ago I couldn't have imagined doing even this much. You gentlemen are inspirational, and between all the general tips being tossed around, and tutorials by Steve, DL-44, and DarkGarden among others, I'm learning rapidly. (I can only pray that my work will keep pace with my theoretical knowledge.) To think . . . I thought I knew PhotoShop, at least on a basic level. You know what they say?the fool knows little and believes he knows much; the sage knows much and believes he knows little.

I like how the text fits into the mosaic pattern. The whole thing suggests a low-res monitor of some sort, with just a little distortion. The red-blue blur is quite pretty, and it's pleasant to look at, but I'm not sure you were going for a soothing effect. The creature itself is a bit too abstract to hold any sense of menace for me. It looks maybe a little like some microbe, a little like a spaceship, but unless I knew in advance that I was dealing with a creepy alien threat, I'd spend more time squinting at it than running for my life.

Figure out what kind of menace you're going for and play it up.

Liluth: Thanks! You really like it? I did some work on it last night and it looks a little better. I don't think many people liked this pick but I think it yeilded a lot of potential.
I just wish I had more time to do the Repeat Perf. It can really help your PS skills.
