Hey dudes and duditas...

does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on how to make a gear wheel? You know, like the grind wheels. I am having problems in figuring out on how to do it in PS.

Ducati, you really need to start posting your question in the right forums.

What if someone else come along look for the same thing?

I doubt they'd be looking in the main forum for the answer. Kinda defeats the purpose of actually having Photoshop forum doesn't it.

I think theres one built into Illustrator?

You basically make a shape and use the free transform and drag the little center to the center point of your gear then rotate a little and fill then rotate and fill until you have 360 gear shape.

One could modify WJs tut here to make gears...

Rather easily...

in PS7

... new layer
... polygon tool
... pull down the custom shape options and set the following
(smooth corners - on)
(star - on)
(smooth indents - on)
(# of sides to about 40 (or as many teeth as you want your cog to have).)
... drag 2 guides to the centre of where you want the cog to be
... snap to guides - on
... shift-drag the polygon from the centre to the size you want
... eliptical select tool
... alt-shift-drag a selection to just clip off the rounded tips of the teeth
... select inverse
... delete
... deselect
... alt-shift-drag a selection to just clip off the inside curves at the bottoms of the gaps in the teeth
... edit - fill - foreground color
... deselect
... alt-shift-drag a new selection to the size of the inner (axle) hole
... delete

... then have at it with all the creative effects and that's it.

(smallified to conserve bandwidth)

bingo .. quick ... but effective.
