Hi all,
I'm a member also of an italian Photoshop Forum. The site is http://www.psd.it/forum .
We are trying to manage an International Forum vs Forum Photoshop Battle that will involve a team of 5 people from each forum (since now this is how we want to manage it, we accept also new proposals).
There are three forums interested since now: PSD (from Italy), SomethingLeet and TeamPhotoshop.
Anyone interested here ?

Could you go a little more in-depth of what you're looking to do here.
I'd imagine there might be a few people that are up for a bit of challenge.

In our forum, we do periodically what we call "Sfide" that means Challenges, between us.
Our moderator set a topic where it gives, for example, two images, the issue of the challenge and some limits (dimensions, size in kb or whatever else).
At this point the challengers have a week or two to prepare their pictures and post them into the topic.
After all of the challengers posted their pictures, there is a week or two for EVERYONE to vote hte best picture. The one collecting more votes is the winner.
No prizes, no money, only challenge. What we win there is only personal skill, work-style comparisons and fun.
Now we are thinking to manage a Challenge between International Forums. With only one image posted per forum. Not one person but a Forum team.
This is intended to share personal skills, work-style comparisons and fun, with other countries styles and way-to-see the things.
At this point we are only guessing which forums can be interested in a multi-forum Photoshop Battle. We reached three names: PSD (this is us), SomethingLeet and TeamPhotoshop.
I think that also GurusNetwork may be interested, even if I wouldn't ask them, because they are so busy with their site redesign (Emperor?)

Ya... they are pretty busy over at the GN, but a lot of the folks over there also tend to things here.
This sounds fairly interesting to me... I'd like to see it set in motion.
I don't really know what people at the asylum would be interested though.... so we'll have to wait for a few other people to pop their head in this thread, and see what they have to say.
I'm assuming you'd be running the "competition" through your forum?
Or were you planning on posting the 4 submissions at each one of the forums.

Although as there are an awful lot of people here with the skills it might be possible to get a GN team together too - post a message on this and see if you can get a team together over there - it could be interesting

So do we as a team (5 member or more) make an image and post it up at PSD.IT or is it done another way? Do we all work on the image like a PSpong but in a better way that we end up with something worth posting?
So anyone here interested??

Since now we are only searching for agreement from the forums.
I think that the best would be to host the final competition in PSD.it forum, in an english area, where each team will post the final picture as a team. No pong, but cooperation through the final result.
Maybe, after this first try, we can manage other battles hosted by the other forums.

OK!
So far we reached this point.
It seems that we, as PSD.it, will host ht e first interforum competition, writing our rules.
We'll decide if giving a starting image, with or without a topic, the dimensions, the size and so on.
Each forum team (5 ppl) will work on this rules, creating 1 final image.
Each forum will host a discussion showing all the pictures except for its own.
Anyone on that forum can now vote, giving three names as first, second and third.
In the end of the votes we'll count 5 points for every first place, 3 points for every 2nd place and 1 point for every third place.
Each forum will have, so, 1 final winner, 1 2nd placed and 1 third.
We'll apply again the position points to every forum finale range, adding the points, and we will have the final winner.
Suggestions, comments or critiques?

How many forums are in this thing, and who's deciding which forums or is it open to all forums?
Is PSD.it going to enter as well?
From where will you coordinate this and where will the rules, final submissions and all of that kinda stuff be posted?
Is there some kind of offocial cross forum point of contact for this? It that person you?

emps not really if the forums vote for the top 3, and then pass the rankings to the central site that should clear that problem up.
ie. not the number of votes count just the positions.
say final postions here are
1. team a 5 pts
2. team c 3 points
3.team b 1 point
these points i take it are the ones that are forwarded to the final decision, not the actual sub totals counted up in the voting in the forums...

Yes.... I have questions and concerns as well.
I've spent some time looking through the threads at your forum, as well as the other forums that you've mentioned, that are participating, and it would seem that the ideas to get this going, are rather rough around the edges.
I'm seeing a lot of ideas that were contrary to my original beliefs about this.
I'm *really* curious as to what you're going to write out for rules, and outlines.
I have a shit load of questions about all of it, but I don't really have the time to write it all out, while I'm at work....
But here's something that I'd like to know (as I'm sure everyone else in the asylum would like to know)..........
This "competition" will be one event... correct?
One big event where all the forums battle against each other with one image.... correct?
I've been reading that there were possibilities of having multiple matches and that sort of thing.
NOW, obviously, I can't speak for the whole asylum........ but I'm fairly sure I can speak for a vast majority of it, by saying.... We don't have a ton of free time to have 4 consecutive matches.
Like I said.... I thought this was one big event....... but I've seen ideas floating around that it may be broken down into 1 forum vs 1 other forum.... and having a series of matches.
I just don't see that as being a very feasible idea. Many of us have 4 or 5 other projects going on that take are a lot higher on our list of things to do........... and while we would absolutely love to participate in this idea.... I don't think we can get a solid team of 5 people to be available for weeks on end to work on image after image.
This is just my thoughts.
You guys that are creating the rules and outlines really need to pull your ideas together and broadcast a solid message about how this thing will run. I kinda wish you had established everything prior to bringing it up to other forums.... I think it could have run a lot more smoothly.
However, needless to say, that's all behind us.
I hope you can give us definite information about this soon. People are starting to volunteer their time to a project that hasn't even been laid out by the people proposing it.

Michael:
Your question is right...
We started to the idea of a 1 forum vs 1 forum match, but we realize the same like you. How many free time we can afford for this kind of matches?
So we think that it will be a SINGLE EVENT with several forum teams, each one of them sumbitting one single image. Since now there are 5 forums interested in joining. A 6th is discussing about getting inside or not.
We planned also the rules for voting but we are still discussing about some topics, so I'll post them lately.
The 5 persons team is a limit only for the work with photoshop. A brainstorming of the full forum, for the ideas, is strongly suggested.

This is our first draft for the general rules:
-----------------------------------------------
Photoshop International Forums Competition
1. General Rules
----------------
1.1 Competition Assignment
The Forum that launch the competition will decide the Assignment.
This mean that the reules will be decided by the Forum declaring the challenge.
1.2 Forum team
Each other forum interested in joining the Competition will form a team of 5
people.
This 5 people team will be in charge of creating the final image to be submitted to
the Competition.
1.3 Image submission
Each forum will host a thread, named as the Competition, showing all the pictures
except for its own.
1.3.1 How to submit
Each team will join the other forums as a member of them, creating an avatar
that will represent their own forum.
One of the team will be in charge to submit the same image to all of the
participating forums, except for their own.
1.4 Voting
Any member of each forum will vote on his own board.
A valid vote will indicate a first place (the favourite image), a second and a
third place.
Comments, critiques and reasons on votes are welcome.
1.5 Points
In the end of the votation period, each forum will count 5 points for every first
place, 3 points for every 2nd place and 1 point for every third place.
The final count will pop-up one image as first classified in that forum, an
image as second and another as third.
1.6 Final classification
At this point we'll have such a classification for each forum.
We'll assign the same score to them and we will reach the final winner.

OK..... I guess I'm the captain for TEAM OZONE.... so I'm the one who's supposed to argue with the refs, right? =)
anyway... I'm here to just voice an opinion about how this whole "rules outline" is broken down...
So, Spasquini.... here's my thoughts...
You guys are adding a lot of excess nonsense into the whole thing at the moment.
I can see that you're trying to lay the ground work for more inter-forum battles in the future.... but frankly... I think you should take this one step at a time. In an instance like this.... it's probably not going to go 100% correct on the first try with all the forums. Something, somewhere won't go as you planned. SO, I think instead of trying to lay out all these rules in some manner that will be put into a FAQ somewhere for future battles to occur........... you should focus on the issue at hand. THIS ONE.
They'll be more than enough time to go back and tweek the rules that you write out for this particular competition, later on.
But hey.... that's just my opinion... and it's probably swayed by the fact that I'd really like to see this thing roll. =)
Moving along...
Lemme break it down for you. Simplicity is grand.
quote: 1.1 Competition Assignment
The Forum that launch the competition will decide the Assignment.
This mean that the reules will be decided by the Forum declaring the challenge.
PSD.IT is setting the rules for the competition. (which of course, is a "no-brainer" because it was their idea)
quote: 1.2 Forum team
Each other forum interested in joining the Competition will form a team of 5
people.
This 5 people team will be in charge of creating the final image to be submitted to
the Competition.
Each competing forum will stage a 5 man team that will collaboratively work on one image.
quote: 1.3 Image submission
Each forum will host a thread, named as the Competition, showing all the pictures
except for its own.
1.3.1 How to submit
Each team will join the other forums as a member of them, creating an avatar
that will represent their own forum.
One of the team will be in charge to submit the same image to all of the
participating forums, except for their own.
Why don't you have each team designate 1 representative (team captain). When the time comes to begin the voting... he/she goes to all the competing forums and posts her/his team image in a thread created by THAT FORUM'S CAPTAIN.
Who gives a shit about avatars?
heh... we don't even have 'em here.
quote: 1.4 Voting
Any member of each forum will vote on his own board.
A valid vote will indicate a first place (the favourite image), a second and a
third place.
Comments, critiques and reasons on votes are welcome.
1.5 Points
In the end of the votation period, each forum will count 5 points for every first
place, 3 points for every 2nd place and 1 point for every third place.
The final count will pop-up one image as first classified in that forum, an
image as second and another as third.
When competiting forums have all posted their images into the competition thread at any forum.... voting begins. All members of that forum can vote on images by designating a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ranking. When voting ceases, 5 points are designated for a first place rank... 3 for a 2nd, and 1 for a 3rd.
Taking those scores, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ranking will be established for that entire forum.
When this has been done at all forums.... the same point system will be applied to the overall results of each forum...... and a victor will be established.
quote: 1.6 Final classification
At this point we'll have such a classification for each forum.
We'll assign the same score to them and we will reach the final winner.
I'm not positive what you're saying there.... but I think I've described it already.
------------------
I don't know if you're using a translator when you're posting some of this stuff..... or if you're directly typing it. Either way... obviously, we may run into some slight problems.
Did I interpret all of this correctly?
Are you making more changes the the rules?
When can we expect this competition to begin?
Perhaps... instead of a captain of one forum, going over to another forum to post the image for her/his team is not nessecary. If psd.it hosts a thread that allows each captain to go there and post their team images...... each captain can take the links to those images, back to their respective forums................. thus, simplifying things by not having to go out and join a whole bunch of other forums. Do you understand what I'm saying?
These are just MY thoughts..... I haven't even discussed it with anyone else from TEAM OZONE.... so other people may have comments as well.
And if I've interpreted it correctly... you may want to pass on my comments to other forums...... or give them a link to this thread, so that they can see where all this is going. ~just a thought.
Even if you posted the ICQ numbers (or some other chat program) of each of the team captains.... perhaps a more free-flowing line of communication could be set up.
mmm... i guess that's all for now.

No, I'm typing it directly and, of course, my main language is italian, so ... thank you for your corrections. Everything sounds better, now.
>Did I interpret all of this correctly?
Sure you did.

We posted this rules draft to be able to discuss with all teams about anything we may forgot or whatever mistake we could do.
We are open to suggestions.

If everything is going in the right direction, we plan to start this week or the next.

I understand. Saying that each captain will post the image in all the forums, I meant that he can even write the URL of the image, whatever he can do to be able to show the picture.
We spoke about a thread in each forum, showing the images, so as let everyone is going to vote, to see all voteable images without having to jump from forum to forum.

Although I'm a bit curious about this bit:

Does that mean 3rd party filters like EyeCandy are not to be used or what. Because it says "only native filters" then it also says that 3rd party filters are also allowed. Seems a little contradicting to me.

However, by not allowing us to vote on ALL the entries you effectively DENY us the ability to judge based on merits alone. It also brings up unbalancing issues such as number of members per forum.
I can all but promise you that the members of this forum who will be a part of this event will base their judgements on the quality of the piece. I can see the logic behind the "solution" but I don't think that there is really a problem to solve.
