hey people,

I was wondering if any of you would like to share your "dumbest photoshop moment". You know, when you first started messing with the program. When you only used the mouse and thought the keyboard shortcuts were too hard to memorize. (now i wish i had three hands....for many reasons )

Doc mentioned one involving inadvertantly leaving the caps lock on in a different thread. Personally, I think the funniest things are the images I used to make. I basically used every filter and canned trick I'd learned on each and every image. It was pretty sad. I think I still do it now, I just don't admit it to myself. Come to think of it, that's why I'm in the asylum in the first place. heh

I wish I'd kept some of them though.

Sometimes I forget that I've hit ctrl + h, then I go on like business as usual -- Doh! Sometimes I forget that I've turned Preserve Transparencies on. Sometimes I forget that I've clipped a few layers and it does funky things when I go to turn off several layers. Just click the bottom layer, none of the others. Sometimes (recently) I forget that I'm working in a seperate RGB channel. That can be a real confonder sometimes.

Again, Steve said it best.

Dumb things like flattening the imae? Deleting layers? Yes, why is it so tempting. And when you have 6 psd's going at the same time and you close the program and it's asking "do you wanna save Untitle4?" and you accidentally clikc 'no' and it's gone forever?...

I actually saved the first thing (and 2nd and 3rd)I ever did with Photoshop, I think it was done in 98 on PS3, I didn't touch PS again for quite a while, til maybe a year ago with 5.5. Eees mui hideouso, who can identify the stock background image? I had a lot to work with... eeek, I knew there was a reason I had saved this crap.

DG you so funny make-a me raugh.

The worst for me was when I was slicing up my interface for my personal site. The thing has 30 some slices in it. On one of the slices I dragged the selection a couple of pixels past the guide (yes I had snap on) and didn't notice. So when I reassembled the image in HTML it was all fucked up. I searched my code forever trying to figure out where I had omitted something before I notced the size of the image. So then I went back and resliced certain portions but forgot to change the image parameters within my HTML. DOH! I believe I had several tasty beverages after that night.

when im lazy, i dont name my layers approriately, so i end up selecting, cutting, pasting and generally workign on the wrong layers as a result.
sometimes, when ive just bitten off more than i can chew, and gotten too deep into the channels, i end up so screwed i hav eto close photoshop. i just cant push a correct button.
what is REALLY fun is when i use my home pc, which is still bearing the scars of my computer game addiction. the left crtl button doesnt work all the time, so that's always great fun. end up finding all sorts of new commands.

OK, I can share mine! When I was first writing tutorials, I wrote the first version of the Lighting Effects tutorial, and I explained this *totally* bizarre and difficult means of creating the sharp edged "button mask", using the gradient tool set to 'multiply', it worked great but required watching the info pallette very closely and being "oh so careful" with the mouse. After it was posted for a few weeks, some kid who had just gotten Photoshop asked me why I never mentioned the easy way, of simply setting my selection to "border" of 16 and filling with black? Doh! I couldn't believe it, it was too frigging easy! I left the hard way up as the first part of the tute, there were too many good learning issues in doing it that hard way! (I'll bet there are still a few people who are pissed at me for not explainign the easy way till the end! Hah!)

Hmmm...worst photoshop moment?

could it be when I tried to create an image on a 3000 X 3000 canvas, and managed to crash my harddrive due to over spin?

(and I mean CRASH, and insmake came out the ventilation ports)

can't really say I have a dumbest moment...but I have plenty of dumb ones.

I often forget I clicked preserve transoparency, and repeat the gaussian blur 2-3 times wondering why it didn't have much effect.....

when I fisrt got PS, I thought lighting effects was the most useless filter I had.......til I figured out what the 'texture channel' bit was all about....

Skaarjj, that's so cool!

I don't have a dumbest Photoshop moment. They are all dumb. No, wait, I do. I do have a dumbest moment. It was at school, in the comp lab; I was sitting there Photoshopping, listening to some ragga techno or something. My friend Carol was sitting next to me working on some other project on her computer. I had my feet up on the bottom frame of the little cart-type thing the computer was sitting on, which is on the same level as the power plug for the entire row of machines - I was sitting at the very end, next to the wall. I was tapping my left foot in time with the music, and through my steel-toed boots I couldn't feel that I kept bumping the surge protector plug... Well, needless to say, the rhythm got to me and my incessant foot-tapping dislodged the plug from the wall. All the computers on the aisle went off. Holy crap, I wanted to shrivel up. I was just screwing around and not too worried about my work, but Carol was working with this big, complex, UNSAVED file... Heh. She was slightly pissed?
