Preserved Topic: Site opinions (Page 1 of 1)

Hi there, I was wondering if some of you could take some time to have a quick look at the beginnings of a new site I've created. I wouldn't mind your opinions on the whole layout, colour and 'feel' of the site, but most importantly I would like to know if the site feels too 'busy' or 'bunched up'. Any feed back would be great.

i love his site, personally. it's so clean, so usable. it's got a wonderful sense of minimalism and tact that i really appreciate. i'm not sure i'm keen on all the text and all the "options" but i suppose for something like this, it's necessary.

The site looks OK. Its nothing I would jump up and down about but its not bad either. I just have a couple of things.

Brushed metal. Am I the only one tired of this effect? I think its a little overdone. Go for a metallic effect more reflective of the game (which I have no clue about) you are making the site for. The difference clouds make the effect slightly unique but I think you can do better.

You have your thingie on the upper right aligned right so that it will expand with the screen. I would suggest losing that and just fixing it. For smaller resolutions its fine but for larger that thing goes allllll the way to the right leaving lots of empty space.

<hypocritical critique>Maybe you could use some other background than black? It leaves things kind of empty ya know? Possibly expand that screen shot from behind your interface elements so it uses a portion of the screen and put a border around the whole thing. Just some suggestions. </hypocritical critique>

I like the mouseover effects with the blue text. But the blur behind the white is unneccessary. It detracts from it and makes it tougher to read.

You definitely need to do something different with the W.A.R. Headquarters thing. Looks like a cheez bevel gone wrong. I have no idea what you might want to try there but anything different would be good.

Cool, thanks for the critique. You picked up on a lot of things I didn't even think of.

I wasn't too happy with the metal look (It looked good in my mind, but I didn't pull it off), so that'll go, and looking at it now, black isn't all that atractive (I think I heard someone say that black hardly ever looks good on the net) so that'll get the boot.

So you think the scan lines should go?

Anyway, looks like its back to the drawing board.

okiedokes - very first impression:
DEFINE YOUR IMAGE HEIGHT AND WIDTH. here is a perfect example of why. i wont tell you - give every image its height and width, and tell me if YOU notice the difference!
in your menu, the white text gets lost in the lightning. you may want to fix that.
i also like the mouseover effect on your text, though.
not a bad first page, post it again with content too - i would like to see how you fill it out!
also, each of the non-body components of the page (menu, icon, "main" title) seem very disconnected.
and in high res, krets is right, the layout looks a little strange.
*switching res* in low res it dont look too flash either, just different.
so yeah, some nice bits, but i dont think its quite fitting together yet...
