im curretnyl working on a new layout and this is what i have so far http://www.geocities.com/bugwarrior07/JermReality1.jpg and i was just wondering what u guys thought of it and what i could add or do to make it better thanks.

silly me, i forgot to respond after i looked at it.

:: the high-contrast neon-green doesn't really fit with the theme or mood of the interface. i suggest either muting it down somewhere around r158 g186 b93 or taking it into a completely different color. the colors simply don't match.
:: your tabs are rather difficult to read; there are a couple of issues surrounding that. 1::the font is poorly optimized. might be the way you saved it down. 2::the font is too tall, not wide enough. 3::the color is so bloody near to every other color (save for the crazy-yellow, of course) in the mess. go for white or black--easy on the eyes.
:: it's not necessary to put "jerms reality" twice on the front. i say drop one of 'em.
:: your bevels are nice, but not sure if it works--giving depth to the top when you're dealing with two-dimensional feel on the rest of it.
:: the gradiated boxes, again, don't seem to fit in--so much solid color, and then these little gradients.
:: tone down the silly white circles; they don't flow. at all. even remotely. drop them to a gray or lose them completely.
:: in fact, i bring up side note; white on this interface won't work except in very small doses. not the big areas.
:: you've given yourself 3 areas for text...what the devil are you going to be using 3 areas for? do you really need links, news, and "stuff" all on one page? overkill.
:: you're designing for 800x600, which isn't going to fit when it actually gets into a browser; design for 760x420.

i think that covers it. i look forward to commenting on the next version.

ok, everybody, time for "give your unwanted opinion" time! is it a blantant rip, a really poor copy, should awilthil be flattered by Jerm's idolisation of his site, or are they just coincidentally similar?
i think they are OBVIOUSLY entirely different, i mean look at the box titles - awilthil has "hot stuff", "site news" and "other stuff", but jerm has "stuff", "news" and "links". totally different. apples and apples.

Wow, that does bear great resemblance to wilthil.

However, I will go ahead and comment on yours.

Ummmm.... Yeah.... Pretty much everything that twitch said plus...

On your navigation tabs you need figure out some way to seperate the green from the grey. Right now it just doesn't look good how they run together.

Look closely in your news box. The little black lines that run out of the right side of that blue thing have a couple of extra spots on them. It looks like you didn't get your line tool perfectly matched up. This also happens on the right where the line actually connects to the blue bar.

Your links and stuff headers are misaligned with the boxes underneath by about a pixel on each side. Need to get that fixed.

Looks like a good start. Although, the issue of similarities should be addressed. There is a little more than coincidence going on there methinks.

OK i was inspired by his work but after another fourm i have something that will make it look different. AND FOR ALL OF U PEOPLE THAT THINKS ITS A RIP GIVE ME YOUR E-MAIL ADRESS OR ICQ NUMBER AND ILL SEND U THE DANM PSD FILE

and jerm - im sure you do have your own psd file, they are entirely different images, the point was that yours still looks heavily influenced by awilthil's.
sorry to pull the thread away from its intention!
anyway, back to YOUR image....
all twitch's comments are spot on, imo. another thing that bugs me is the boxes nuder "stuff" and "links". they loko one pixel too wide for their title.
a little idea - if you do make the text on the tabs longer, and not as high, then i woudl suggest trying to change the dividers a little.
for a start, maybe a solid black line youlc work better, and i would make the line start from the light blue bit, so its not on the greenish bit, so the divider between "home" and "about" would be longer than that betweeb "about" and "graphics", for instance.

Inspiration and blueprint are two different things If I were you I wouldn't copy "everything", but rather utilize only a few concepts for your page.

I do like the logo though... it could use a little more work however.
