*whew*
now THAT was a long subject!
anyone have any opinons on the new phong?
i have to admit, he is pretty good with graphics!
i like those pixellated corners on the message boxes, but they dont seem to fit in, IMO.
everything else is so smooth and shiny... lots of shiny...
he knows how to use his flash, too....
ok, im going to leave it there, im more interested in someone else's opinon.

Personally, I think he gets more credit then he deserves. Don't get me wrong, he is a good artist but I don't think hes anything special. Aside from his last two layouts, the majority of his other layous weren't even nice. A lot of people consider him the Photoshop God, but theres plenty of people in our own forum that are better then him.

Critique of his site:
1.Am I the only one who can't figure out what the triangle on his interface does? You can click it, but does it server a purpose other then show?
2.The design is very sleek and shiny, like much of his other art.
3.Very Very Very little content. Content that is there is from previous versions of sites.
4.Apparently not compatable with ie5.5 on macs.

Thats about it. Nothing overly wrong with his site. I just feel he gets a lot more credit then he really deserves. Of course theres a good chance its just jealous. I won't rule that out

wow. new site. gad.

:: the word gratuitous comes to mind from the beginning, but that's perferential.
:: the talent is there, the techniques are unique, and the colors work--they're the same colors, techniques, and talent that he has been using to make his phong work since i ever saw his first site, back a couple of years.
:: the secondary pages are also quite unique. i enjoy the smooth flash and, again, the color schemes.
:: it's a damn shame that he hasn't written a new tutorial in at least a year...

all in all, a damn impressive site...if you're looking for an absolutely void of content, and you're okay with a beefy load time. as far as i am concerned, having seen this iteration, i don't have go to back until the next one--my optic nerves don't need that much :: cough :: stimulation.

I really like the look of the site. Nice a clean. Some of those trendy grunge sites annoy me.

I was very disappointed in the content. Its like looking at a "neat" graphic. OK, I've seen it. Why go back?

::sigh:: my thoughts exactly Krets. I understand hes got a job and an a life and all, but why spend so much time designing a site when you can't take the time to put content in it. It took him months to get that together, considering theres three sections, youd think there would be more too it...

Ah, figured out what the triangle does. Drag it to the left.

i thought that thing was pretty obvious.... stupid thing is that you can move it vertically and horizontally... it soudl just slide out...
but that then raises the question - why bother? its not like theres any extra informaiton that is shown when that screen is hidden.... hang on a tick, that screen dont show nothing important either...
i know horizontal scrollbars are supposed ot be the root of all evil , but i have to admit that im pretty damned opposed to vertical ones too, especially when they could fit everything in the window if they tried, and it stil lwouldnt look cluttered....

First thing I noticed? It's BIG. Like dimensions big. Like that cool interface thingy takes up a good chunk of my 1168x864 screen. I really like the layout of the secondary pages, very nice work. Aside from that I pretty much echo twItch^s comments, I'll check it again in a few months...

First, I have always been a big fan of Phong....Along with Infinite Fish, Ozones, EyeBall, and DesignsByMark......but I am going to have to agree with Jestah and say that he does get more credit than he deserves. He is most definitly a great graphics designer and has some very unique and creative material, but there is no content. I feel like he throws in small content, like the "Trippy, Trashy" thing just to fill up space. The graphics are A++ Superb, but if he would take the extra mile and have the content to back it up, it would make the site all the much better.

I do have to say though.....I visit the site quite often, because I love his work and admire it....so I will continue to visit.

Warmly,

Phong.com is one of the most poorly designed sites I've ever seen. Why? Several reasons.

--- Usability --- Low score here. How many people want to put their comments in an area called "Postscript" and then not give any real explanation of what it is? "Tutorials" makes sense. "Imagery?" Well, gosh, isn't that what the whole site is?
--- Loadtime --- I have a DSL, so it loaded marginally more quickly for me than if I were to, instead, type out the DNA sequence of a human being in binary. Need I say more?
--- Uselessness --- Okay, this is his highest score. Why? What is the point? Great. Another blog. Oh, wait, this blog is more --useful-- to someone because it has tutorials and *REAL LIVE CONTENT*! Okay, so it's overrated.

--- Overall --- I give it five pixels out of ten. He's overrated. His designs are overrated. His wallpapers are overrated. He works for a company that is overrated. Blue is way overrated. *WAY* overrated.

So what have we learned? If you want to make a site that is blue and garish, and all you want to do is generate income through click-throughs on banners and word of mouth, guess what? You can! Follow Phong.com's wonderful example, and you too can be wasting your ISP's bandwidth every day!

Useless.
Shiny.
Blue.

It's like a bad medication.
