Ok, a while back I mentioned I had to do a "mauve" site. Well, getting mauve on the monitor is not easy. This is what I came up with so far. I would really appreciate comments. It's a very plain site but I figure after it goes through the ringer here I might be able to spice it up a bit.

Very cool Bugs, I like that a lot. No qualms with it at all. The color selection fits the subject perfectly. So this is what you were working on when you asked that question about mauve in the PS forum. You sneaky devil you.

Mmmmmmmm caaaaaake. Hungry.....

Incidentally, how'd you do that cake-swap thingy? DHTML? gif? I don't have time to look at the source right now but I'll come back later...

Nice!

The cake swap is just your basic javascript image swap like is used on mouseovers. Thanks, for the feedback, krets!

No no, I mean the rotating cake picture thingy. The fade in and out thing.

it looks nice, if a bit plain. the only thing that looks odd to me is the upper left corner. the other 3 corners all come to a corner/point, except for the one that is round.

also, you use a lot of bold text (for the "cakes" page), and i wasnt even sure if the email link on "contact" really was an email link.

(is something wrong with the server? some things were taking a *long* time to download)

Awesome Bugimus. Question. Is the background around the buttons and corners supposed to be transparent? It doesnt look it on my computer, although it could be just my computer ...

Plainish Bug. The mauve looks as good as it's going to get. I wouldn't mind havin a look at designs1-3. Not that this one doesn't have it's good qualities, it's really very sharp, but I'd be interested in seeing the others as well, if not just small screencaps or something.

I noticed the corners thing that sasha points out too, makes the pics at left not fit in like puzzle pieces and I long for them to fit...

Can I buy you a drink Jestah?

Looks really good Bugs! Hard to make monchromatic pages appealing but you've done it I think the color photo insets have something to do with that. Umm, might have seen some small jaggies on your rounds though. Maybe *I* should have that drink LOL!

cool - tho you need another colour, mebbe two for accent/highlight - its tidy tho you've done well with the mauve *cough*pink*

the mooose overs im really not into but the cakeSwap is cool - might wanna add a few more frames between the morfs, the seem a bit hurried...

tidy tho, really like it =)

Dark Chocolate Cake, please....

Cool in your eyes, just perfect for a cake site . Clean and tidy, make the bride smile..

Functionality; OK. Navigation; easy. Readability; yes, I can read it fast.

Overall experience; great!!

Bugs, I really like it. I think you've made a great site..

Ok, thanks for the feedback!

I changed the upper left curver to a corner. I'm looking into possible highlight colors to enhance things a bit. I think that would solve the plain problem. I agree it's plain, I just have hit a creative block on this one for some reason.

Dirty pink? Yep, I agree but that's what the client wanted to see, what are you gonna do? It started out as a bright peach, ::Bugs starts shaking uncontrollably::

Krets, I meant it when I said the cake fade in/out effect was the same as the mouseover code. I have some routines that load any number of images into an array and then I can cycle through the array with an appropriate delay to "animate" the images. So instead of the just two images swapping on and off, I set up five images. The first image is full opacity cake #1, then 75% opacity with cake #2 as the lower layer. I then create another faded image with cake #1 at 50%, then 25%, then full image of cake #2. So the whole thing is really just a bunch of setTimout functions and this image swapping code done in Javascript. I believe it does the same stuff as Doc's flourish page. I would make mine more available but typical me, I write my code kind of hard to understand and I don't want to "burden" people with it. I would be more than happy to share it if anyone's interested.
