Hi. *curtsies*

I just wanted to ask if maybe it would be possible to add another field to the user profile for age. I have no reason other than complete and utter nosiness.

*stares at feet*

If not, I understand.

With a little detective work you can find out the age of *some* of us by other means.

I know. I know. But that takes time, and I don't get out of the cell much these days...

Edit> 35? Whooda thunk! Nice navigation on your site. It reminds me of the thing from Stargate.

I think birth year is more useful. Y'see, your age changes every year. You'd have to change your profile every birthday. *has a very stupid point here*

Yeah I found that a pain on my GN profile, have to change a lot of things, like number of years I have been doing this, as well as how old I am... every 365 it needs an update... what a pain in the ass.

You're absolutely right Mahjqa. If I'd thought it through more, that's what I would have said.

Doc-Birth Year instead of age...if you're listening.

I've had that problem before, so that's why I suggested this.

Jeni,

So, um, in the interest of complete and utter nosiness, what is *your* age... I mean birth year?

problem is when stereotypes or prejudices are drawn as a reult of age....
and hey, that's one of the things i like about this page...
a 50 y-o carpenter, 30 y-o web professional and 16 y-o school student can all help each other out, no one the wiser !

buncha, I think that is one of the best things about this medium. It acts as a prejudice dampener. At least traditional prejudices anyway, I think we are developing online prejudices but that is another topic.

I was going to ask Jeni the same question Bugs, but the I remembered that your not supposed to ask a lady her age, They lie about it anyway. Besides, then the next thing you know someone will want to know her weight, and the donnybrook will be on.

I also was thinking just recently, how great it is that this forum (for me at least) is completly free of bias from race, color, age, or creed. I know discussions on these subjects take place from time to time in the Philosophy forum, but even then, I don't think I've felt any prejudice in the threads there.

I have no idea what you mean by online prejudice, but would love to hear your thoughts on it.

And, being that it's your thread Jeni, I'll get back to your topic.....

So, just how old are you, and how much do you weigh?

your elete, your a newbie, your a trend follower, you are just piggy backing on the other person's fame, etc,.

Something like online prejudices. I don't think that the age thing really has any relevance. I actually had a run in where my age damped my oppionions.

I am applying for a job, and it so happens I have an older cousin with an in. She asks me via e-mail what I think about the site she is working for (we will not name names). I give her the cold hard facts, that the site although advanced really lacks in some areas. She happened to have a long day at work, and made a mistake of pressing reply instead of forward. So I get a letter saying "I would like to hear you comments on the comments a college student studying web/(sitename)." as a reference to the person in creative control of the web site. Why did I have to be a college student? Just does not make since to me... Lessens the critique I gave to the site...

Today I get another letter from her, I have will have (guy in charges name) get back to you on the comments, maybe it would be good for you to converse with some in the thick of web design day in and day out...

Wouldn't it make since that if the site sucks, and I notice things that they don't that I would be the one with more knowledge here... My age has noting to do with what I know... The creative controller could be some yuppy with an art degree who has no idea how to actually do anything, or someone that has their bachlors degree in webdesign from that college in Vermont, USA...

Ugh...

So I think that the major point here, is if we bring age into the picture I think it may act to dampen the force of the oppionions that some people have to offer. I am sure you could do your homework to find out ages of people. It would not be too hard, but to directly publish them... I don't think it would be good, it would work to cheapen the site. IMO.

I always thought about it thusly: How old would I be if I didn't know how old I was?

Seems to keep me freer...

Sorry about the delayed response. I don't have access to a computer in the evening hours.

Butcher- I'm 25 (just turned), born in 76 (another bicentennial baby), a taurus, female, married (almost 2 years), no kids (except for my Water Dragons), brown hair, brown eyes, have an associates in advertising and graphic design, work as a packaging/ad/pop designer, been using PS since 2.5, and I have a bad fucking attitude.

And it's not age you're not supposed to ask a woman-it's weight. Truthfully, I haven't gotten on a scale since I got married (and for good reason). I don't want to really continue dragging this out cause it seems obvious that most people here don't want to know background stuff.

I just wanted to know cause it helps me to visualize the person I'm conversating with. The more I know, the better I understand where they're coming from. There is a down side to all this internet correspondence, and that is that people are so often misinterpreted. If I know someone a little better, perhaps I won't take what they say the wrong way. Not that age has anything to do with that.

I appreciate everyone giving their opinion and it seems by lack of Doc in this thread, that he agrees with all of you. Anyway, have a nice weekend all. For those of you who are graduating this weekend, Congrats. See you Wednesday.

Personally, I think it would be much more useful to ask people to post their *emotional* ages, a much more interesting stat IMHO. I'm 16, going on 400, depending on the time of day or my mood, heh.
