Look at this thread:http://www.ozoneasylum.com/21327 I tried to answer a question but in my first post i made an mistake. Thus i pressed the edit button but to my surprise saw the first post (which is not mine) in the edit form. Maybe i clicked the wrong edit button lets try again i thought. But the second time i start editing the post above mine. Then tried to edit the first post and an error turns up. After using the back button i ended up in the "new post form" i used to send my answer. Re-submitted it and another answer turns up. However i could use the edit button from the last post to edit my first post.

Conclusion: in this thread the edit button goes to the post above the one where the edit button is in.

Yup that has been reported by some others as well, should be fixed shortly.

Until then incrementing the postcount variable in the edit page's URL by one manually will get you to the right post.

I'm pretty much certain that this is fixed now. If it isn't holler.

I'm still having problems editing: it hasn't worked since this new Grail was enacted. Every single edit gives me a: "This post is too old to be edited" error. Obnoxious...

Are you sure this isn't only happening with posts that are in fact too old to be editied - i.e. older than four hours?

Older than four hours, when did that take effect? Well, I'm guessing when the new Grail was ushered in. Odd rule...

Sorry about that then, pointless post in that case...

could we change that to say... 24 hours????

what is the logic behind 4 hour edit???

they way i see it... i come by here maybe 1-2 times a day, post quick then leave... come back tomrrow, see an error, and then want to change it. whats wrong there?

The logic, I think, is to prevent people from posting something inflammatory (for example) and then coming back later to edit their post and erase the evidence of their deed. That's just one scenario I can imagine. I suppose the problem is figuring out just how much time to allow before the post is closed to editing. In some cases, four hours would be too long, while in others it might not be enough. It's quite a dilemma, actually.

How about a compromise: 12 hours? Anyone?

The logic behind is that I don't want to reread your posts over and over again because you decided to add another line, link, whatever.
The 4 hours are long enough to correct spelling mistakes and remove what you said if you decide that it was stupid. Chances are, after 4 hours your post *will* have any number of replies - and it is nice to know you can read just the *new* posts, without having to read all of the old ones as well, because someone might have changed something.

12 hours are way to long for this purpose. So are 4, but that's already a compromise. The initial time you had to change your posts was 5 minutes!
Now I could change it so that you can edit your post indefinatly as long as there isn't a post below yours. But how often would that be?

just edited a post in another topic and after posting, decided to change the wording of my edit. but when i hit the edit button, my first edit disappeared! no no no. this is a bug. erasing edits is like being censured by the edit machine.

this renovated asylum is a wonder, but it has a few kinks. so please don't be offended by my remarks.

the second editing bug is that ubb code does not work in an edit

to get a former edit to show means the edit must be copied before the edit button is hit and then pasted into the new edit window. only the original post shows in the edit window. any and all edits are erased/deleted/gone.

velvetrose: are you by any chance using IE? Hitting ctrl-reload should have loaded the right edit page - IE's caching is a bit flaky.
And what's that about ubb code not working in edit? the buttons? the codes? both should be working.
