Well, I guess my curiosity has gotten the better of me. I was wondering if anyone would like to share why they chose the name they chose for asylum. You don't have to, I was just wondering since I am curious.

As for me, it is the name of one of Israel's ancients "judges" back before the Babylonian captivity, even before King David. He was a man with little talent, and with little capability for much of anything. God used him, though. Gideon was given strength by God, and he brought the people of Israel back to God. Even though it was difficult and he was almost killed for getting rid of the Baal idols, he still succeded in not only bringing Israel back to God, but also was successful in liberating Israel from its oppressors at that time with the help of God. He accomplished many things for Israel and I have great respect for him. I guess that is why I decided to model this name after him.

Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you, rebuke a wise man and he will love you.

The wonders of the Faq: Where did the inmates get their nicknames from?

I got mine when I was browsing a latin dictionary for a name for a roleplaying character. Found the word 'veneficus' which amon other things ment magician, the word sounded nice and the character was a mage so I decided to use it. Later on I needed and nick for some online place and Veneficus was taken, so I ended up using Veneficuz. After that I've been using it everywhere I go. One of the good things about it is that I've yet to come across someone who use the same nick, so I always get to use this one when I register at new places

I've been through several, starting with Omicron Child, just because I liked the way it sounded. then I dropped the Omicron and went for just Child, but that had been taken as a screen name so I got IXI Child IXI and from there I dropped the rest of it and kept IXI. it just kinda grew on me.

I don't think I have explained my name in any of those lists Gideon so here goes.
Basically in my quest for knowledge, spiritual and otherwise, I found that the writings of Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching really struck a chord with my spirit. So when I started to use computers and was asked for a nickname to use, someone suggested I use Tao. My first few computers were referred to as Tao's baby, hence my initial nick here was Taobaybee. I also use TaoBoogie a lot to reflect my interest in music.
Now most of that made sense in my head, but now that I look at it. it seems to have spilled out in a bit of a mess. and I'm in a rush so can't tidy it up but I hope you get the gist.

Unfortunatly Blaise is also a French girls name and as such I find I get unwanted attention from other geezas, not my cup of tea you might say.

Well, the Skaarj are a group of large butt-ugly alien invaders from the Unreal series of games, and when I join up here I simply forgot how to spell it, adding the extra j to the end, so it turned from being pronouced 'Sk-har' to 'Sk-har-juh'. So why did I choose it? Frankly, it's what came to mind first, and it's stuck since then. Although I also go by the name Rien (french for 'nothing') in a few places now.

Poi - There's food in that picture? ;-)

My own name is one I made up for a D&D campaign back in '98-99. I found the name Rhyssa in a book I was reading ([i]Pegasus in Flight[i] I believe, by Anne MacCaffrey) and Fireheart is from a dedication in another book. I put them together for my one attempt at a D&D mage. Hated the class, loved the name.

When I started playing online games, I actually went by the name Daremo. In AC1, I started some RP with another guild member, and I couldn't do it as the character Daremo, so I made a mage and named her "Rhyssa Fireheart." That was in late '99 early '00. There was a lot of RP going on at the time and we had a lot of fun with it. Even after that part stopped (rather hard to RP with someone when you are talking on voice comms), I stuck with the name.

Since then, I have a character named Rhyssa (with or without the last name as permitted by games) who is always a mage type ingame. I've stuck with this as my board name because it's just easier than changing from board to board. I actually have a set list of names that I use in games, and each name is tied to a character "type." For example, Rhyssa is a caster/mage, Daremo is a hunter/scout/fighter, SoulRider is a rogue type, Alleluia is a healer/priest. Those are my main names.

And that's probably far more than anyone wanted to know, but I was typing, so hey..

fileHydrant

Sad... I know. My friends all laughed. ("But it's just like 'fire hydrant'" I said!! "That's kEwL, right?") But I couldn't get the 'f' and 'h' sounds out of my head, and feeling like there was some sort of a time crunch (had to come up with a great nick soon, so I could start hacking away!), I settled on phyreHazard.

I've never really liked it, but I've used it in so many different places for so long that it'd be like cutting off an arm to get rid of it entirely. I'm currently in the process of transitioning over to 'genjo'.

Then, after years in chat rooms I got really tired of the constant arrogance so I changed to Humble, which is a bit arrogant if you look at it right. Finally, I got tired of all the noise altogether and I settled on silence.

In MMORPG's and other places where silence is taken I usually just vary the spelling: sylense, sylence, sai-lens, etc.

Wow, those are some neat stories. I'm sorry I haven't posted on this thread but I have been *cough* tied up in some other ones.

I'm sorry about making another name thread, I wasn't aware that there was one already. Well, at least some people who didn't get them on the last one can have them on this one.

I think it is really interesting how things like nicknames get attached to people, and sometimes they get attached to them.

I guess I could post about my other two pseudonyms because those have a little different story behind them. I guess I got tired of using stupid names like "killer" on video/online games, so I decided to make up something on the computer one day. I got on Word and just started typing out random letters and spaces. I came up with two names after about a half a page of nothingness: Paois, which is kinda whimsical and makes me think of the elegant elves from Lord of the Rings, and Kahal, a blunt and oppressive sounding name. They both suited me well for different games, and I have stuck with those on things since.
