Hi guys 'n' gals,

I've been looking into some different packages that are used to offer statistics on a persons website and it's usage, I'm not really very familiar on these kind of packages, however I have dabbled with Webtrends in the past.

Does anyone here in the Asylum have any experience in using web anaytical packages for their or their cllients websites? Ideally I'd like to look at the pors and cons of cheap/free, middleweight and a heavy weight solution. I would suppose that Webtends would be middleweight solution, I've come across StatCounter also which is free I believe and simple to confgure, but what about alternatives and heavyweight solutions.

Anyone have any sugeestions or ideas?

Cheers,

The open source solutions should be exactly what you need. If you are paying money for this type of product you are most likely not getting a good deal.

I use webalizer for my stats, but I do that because it is really easy to use and setup and maintain on FreeBSD, not as featureful as many of the other FOSS software out there.

there is a feature comparison table at the awstats-site, so it may not be objective, but it may help you with your decision:

Ah that's quite informative, but it does only compare free types. From reading through thoug it all seems to come down to support and ease of use. Something like awstats is down to the developer to use and learn, a package like Webtrends comes with licences and all that gumpf, however they offer good support and the interface has been worked on thoroughly to be easy to use abd quick to maintain. From my experience with Webtrends the nice thing about it was that you could set up different interfaces for your users, so developers could get to the guts of the statistics, but project managers and report generators had simple layouts with quick access to the most colourfull pie charts and graphs you could imagine
