All of a sudden my e-mail program (outlook express) delivers blank screens for personal e-mails, but not other types, I can send in clearm but receive nothing but the notification thee is an e-mail there, when opened, blank. Google does not fully load, but funtions---sort of, I get numbers and individual letters scattered across the screen without coherance, yahoo is also affected as are some websites, but not all.
I have had the machine scanned by several different programs and it comes up negative for virii.
Any ideas oh ye Magi of the world-wide ocular?

Or maybe SpyWare/MalWare/AdWare causing fuggups,
You mentioned having scanned with different programs, but have you tried SpyBot S&D.
It's got a dodgy name, but it's excellent program and I've used it to great success on many machines I've taken a look at with similar problems.
Cheers,

Thank you both.
The problem results in, an essentially blank page, when I attend the link provided.
As for outlook, it was there, has worked flawlessly for 10 years.
What else would you suggest?
I have scanned for viruses and come up clean.
Blaise, thanks, I have had spybot for years and find it an excellent program.
Any other suggestions?

I have found Mozilla's mail client, as well as THunderburd, to be vastly superior all around.
Does this mean you are also using IE as a browser?

The lack or scattering appears randomly.
I may go to a website and get the header and npthing else, or there may be scaterred individual letters or numbers down the page. When I receive an e-mail from a friend or client I will get the e-mail info at the top and the message is missing.

1. Backup important data! NOW.
Then:
defragment?
hd almost full?
clear tmp files?
Basically clean up all the old stuff, defragment the hd etc.
Use a check tool on your hd to see if it is healthy
If that won't help, run the repair option on the winblows cd.
If that didn't help, reinstall

I'd also like to recommend using Mozilla's Thunderbird, I've never had any troubles with it on my machines, and I find it a joy to use.
Oh and Google is the name of a search engine, it's simply a website, it is not browser. if you click on Help -> About, it will give you information about your Browser if you can't find out another way, I imagine you're using Internet Explorer.

As noted earlier I am not too knowledgable about these things. Will try all suggstions and report back.
I am I-net explorer...I thought Google was my browser (duh).
Am running windows XP, 1.83 GHz, 512 RAM, 3.32 GB free space.
Have done a defrag, re-boots, virus scans (all negative).
I have not recently installed a spam blocker, those I have, have been in use for quite some time.
How do I scan the HD to see'if it is healthy"?
Thanks for all the suggestions and patience.

i have the assumption that your IE engine is screwed up and therefore outlook doesnt work either.

This is a good time to have the stuff you can't live without backuped and off of the PC.
You can scan the hard drive by opening my computer and right clicking the drive you want scanned (scan all drives but the CD/floppy drives) and then going tools->Scan disk. In scan disk check both boxes and click run. Agree to having it run after the PC boots if it asks. Reboot if needed.
A couple of things to run:
Spybot S&D mentioned above.
Adaware has a free version.
Microsoft Antispyware is free as well.
Run at least 2 of those and to get rid of most spyware. Boots into safe mode to Adaware so it can get more stuff.
If no go check your system restore for restore points. Make a restore point before going back to one so you can undo the go back. Pick a restore point dated from before you had the problem and give it a try.
Go to your in Windows\system32\drivers\etc and you have a file called hosts. Make a backup and open it in notepad. You should only need the "127.0.0.1 localhost" entry in it; the rest can be removed.
hyperbole has a good point. Does this or anything else happen in other programs?
IE6 downloads to try and fix that. Outlook Express is reinstalled at the same time.
Run SP2 for XP if you have it, I can't find a link for it but service packs replace enough files they can fix things.
Do a Windows Update and get all of the patches it has.
The following can be a bit overkilll for the problem but if you can't find an easy solution these can do.
Make sure you have very good backups, CD key, driver files, and program installs for you PC before proceding.
Try SFC. SFC checks your system over and replaces Windows files that have changed. This can cause the lose of setting and some problems with installed programs and updates.
Start->Run-> type cmd. Presss enter. Type sfc /scannow. Press enter. Make sure you have your Windows install disk on hand for this.
If that doen't work or you don't want to try it you can boot off a normal Windows XP disk and perform a repair install. It gives you the option to do the repair install after accepting the license agreement. This is not the recovery consol or repair disks that show up on a earlier screen. Windows may not give you this option for all installs. Make sure you have the CD key on hand.
Finaly a complete format and reinstall of windows.

UPdate;
I had a programmer spend some time poking through the electroinc entrails of this thing and he is stumped. Best he can figure is; it is a video card problem.
Recently (5 weeks ago) installed nvidia's G-force 6200oc.
Lovely card and I can't figure out why, 5 weeks later, it would cause problems.
It was suggested I download the latest driver for the thing. Problem is, because of the problem the website does not load completely and so I cannot do that.
Time to take it back to Compusmart I guess.

Okie dokie, just to check, latest nVidia graphics driver for the G-force 6200oc, running on Win XP? Is this correct?
If it is I'll post a link here to it in about 5 minutes
Here it is.
It is the only driver listed for nVidia GForce on XP, excluding the GeForce Go7800GTX. It is the same driver I'm using. I hope this will help you.

Video Card Huh.... Now your Speaking My Language.
Well If It Was Your Driver... ( or Lack there of) usually everything on your computer would be in 8 bit Color and the smallest size the monitor can go ( 800 X 600 Usually)
And I Have never Heard of a Video Card Being Selective of what It Likes or Doesn't Like... Its Either All Or Nothing...
As quote:
Arthurio said:

A Screenshot of the Problem would Help Greatly... Even if its with a Digital Camera ( Incase you can't get it on the Pc with problem )
How Many Fans? or Cooling systems do you have... Cause Too Much Heat can do Damage ( of Course)
It Also Could Be your Hard drive...

You Can See if its a Hardware Malfunction(s)
Also... When You First Got You Video Card... You did make a System Restore Point...Right

OK. Thanks Tao. It turns out I have the latest driver already.
ID, I have the main fan and the new vid card has it's own fan.
I tried the bit with 'my computer', but saw nothing which would suggest a malfunction. Of course, I don't know what I was looking for in the first place.
I have XP and no I did not make a system restore point, but I did a sys restore from a few days before the problem developed and the problem persists.
I don't have an electronic camera and my web cam control panel disappears when I try to take a screen shot with it.
I tried a screen shot of the google page, but must be doing it wrong 'cause this is all I got;

Well, I seldom shut the thing down in the first place. Then I have no idea where to access the 'settings' or what they should be.
The programmer who was delving into the beast adjusted font sizes and other things, which did have some effect on the affected pages, but did not cure the problem.
He tried a lot of things, all of which were beyond my simple understanding, to no avail and concluded it 'might' be a vidoo card problem.
