My favorite part is how it's "one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever."

Really? They've never read history books, apparently.

Me, I think the display should be enlarged.

First, the Jesus should be animatronic. And he has a basket of Peeps. He picks them up and places them either on a cushion marked 'Heaven' or in the microwave labeled 'Hell.' And he also is slowly melted by a Fresnel glass labeled 'Judas' or 'The Jews' if they want to get really controversial. And then as he finally melts to the core, you find a collection of Easter eggs.

That'd totally rock.

But doesn't a certain flavor of Christians have something where they eat the body of Jesus? Sabboth or something?

Communion - it's a part of most Christian religions, including Catholic, Protestant, etc.

They eat the body of Christ and drink his blood

it's a matter of technicality.

They refer to it as the Transubstantiation, where the bread becomes the body of Christ, the wine becomes the blood of Christ.

No mention of chocolate. Probably 'cuz you peoples got dirty minds.

Just to clear things up, only Catholics believe in transubstatiation. Protestants generally see the bread and wine (or, more often, grape juice) as symbols rather than the actual body and blood of Christ.

As for the article in question, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Did the artist give Christ a really small pecker or something? Or is it just the fact that Christ is naked? That could be more accurate, for all we know.

Wiltshire had its own version a couple of years ago without too much ado.
George Heslop, the artist in question says:

quote:

"Easter now is a crass celebration of retail opportunism and chocolate indulgence which is selling the post modern concept of Easter through a form of context driven retail religious opportunism.

Er, ok.

Or How about a totally chocolate nativity scene.

I think it is time to reflect on the blessing your life has been, if the worst thing for you to deal with is your idol rendered in chocolate....

Hard to believe it's been cancelled...I wonder if someone else will pick it up?

True. But is that *really* the comparison you want to make? Shall we get a bumper sticker pirnted:

Catholics - hey, we're not as bad as Muslims!

???

I hate to try and hijack this thread, but did anyone watch Louis Theroux lastdd night on BBC 2 in his documentary about the 'Most hated family in America', the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas.

It was interesting stuff, they literally hate everyone, and seem incredibly confused people all by the grace of their Grandfather!
