Yep, I think they're trying anything. Figured it must be as Synax mentioned, those words must not be blocked as readily as others.

Spam is incredibly annoying. We've got filters on the server, spam blockers, filters in email and I'm still deleting about 100 per day. I'm so tired of it. I probably miss a bunch of email because I'm so sick of sorting through crap to find anything worthwhile. Unfortunately, my work email has been out there for years so its probably on every spam list.

But doesn't it just take one word in the filter list to kick the Spam to the can? What use is having tons of words in the spam if your being filtered on a word that is applicable to what the spam is about? The BS words at the bottom become pointless.

The "marketed society orchestra force" one was an ad for some offshore pharmacy... I just got one of the nonsense ones, though. I think that their software is malfunctioning and randomly generating body text when it should generate title text. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one major spammer who misconfigured his software and is hitting everyone.

Emps: It's to fool Bayesian filtering spam blockers. They work on a points rating system to determine if the mail is spam or not. One of the many criteria is the ratio of "spammy" words to "non-spammy" words.

Basically they're spamming the filter with non-spammy words to fool it into thinking it's not a spam. If I'm understanding the principles properly.

GD: I don't know of any contemporary anti-spam filters that bounce an entire mail for only one word. They're too easy to get around anyway. penis, p3nis, pen1s, etc.

Amerasu: Which mailserver anti-spam are you using? I'm considering one for mine.

The new version of Mailwasher Pro supports a new feature called First Alert which is under trail launch. Basically, members bounce the spam to the database where they're verified sliced, diced, julienned, hashed, fingerprinted and stored. When a subsequent member gets the same (or really, really similar) mail it's automatically marked as "known spam" in Mailwasher Pro. More info: http://www.firetrust.com/firstalert/

I've been in the trial since mid-December. The number of "known spam" is increasing, but the public blacklist checking and Bayesian filters are still doing a better job. Of course that could simply be due to too few people in the trial or too few reporting. In short, it's too early to tell if this is going to be effective. Interesting concept though.

I have a really hard time with complimenting Microsoft, but Hotmail has gotten much better lately with their junk mail screening. In fact, very near perfect, at least on teh types of spams I usually get. If only they could do that with their security...
