we havent had this for a while
what makes this place so special? who or what do you love most?

for me, its the great comunity, the never ending ozone traditions (altough some are a little bit stagnating atm), suho's refreshing shock treatments, and the thought that our great master, Mr. Dr. Thaddeus Ozone is watching us! apart from that i appreciate all the work inmates invest in the and in the maintenance of the asylum!

this is the coolest and also strangest place on earth

Hey! F1_error! How are you man? Haven't heard from you in... years! How's tricks, and the family and life, the universe and, like, everything?

Why do I love the Asylum? Partially for the reason F1 stated, but also becuase before I came here, and in the years since I have yet to find such a cohesive group of lunatics who are willing and able to both listen, learn and teach other people. And I've worked in schools.

The Myth- I was kidnapped by aliens. My brain was transfered to an alien sheep that had been kept on ice since March 34, 1694. Needless to say after a brief but vicious battle everything was set right, and I was free to go. And no matter what anyone tells you, no anal probes were involved.
The Reality- I went more than a little nuts for a while. I did some bad things (nothing illegal, just immoral and unethical). But as John Astin says, 'I'm feeling much better now.

Wes: Yeah, I've been waiting for the right time to pop back into play. I'll be hanging about and posting when I can. I've got to make a new sig since what was around before was two computers and four domains ago.

Hey F1 long time no see.

Just have to say that without F1's comments I doubt I would have stuck with web design/development/coding as long as I have. I remember a particular post 5 years ago by F1 telling me not to capitalize all my HTML tags, telling me that it didn't jive with something called "standards." Might have taken me about a year to fully understand what those standards things were, but after I got it I never looked back.

For me a lot is tradition, some is the thought that I will be able to spend the time that I used to at this place and the GN making improvements to myself. I doubt I can ever give back what I have gotten from here.

Right now I am spending most of my time in the Silliness forum because most of what I work on now falls way outside of the web design and development theme. I highly doubt that many people here are into Elliptic Curves, Galois Fields and the ElGamal Cryptosystem. However, I still value everything web, I try to stay as current as I can, which doesn't seem all that hard right now, not much is changing.

For all those that are depressed about the stagnation here. There are still a ton of really talented people here, more talented that you might believe, and they still post regularly. If something shifts in the web design world where it starts rapidly changing and advancing I can guarantee that this place will be a hotbed of activity just like it was in the past.

SVG for instance when that is built into IE7 and FF1.1 I am going to put money on the DHTML forum exploding with activity relating to SVG. Learning and change is the life blood of this place, and that is the main reason I love it.

This place has always given me a greater sense of "belonging" than any other community I've come across.

Oh, yeah, why do I love the Asylum? Silly stuff like this, for one. When I first stumbled upon the Asylum a couple of years ago I was new to the internet, had not yet discovered Image Ready, even though I had been playing with photoshop for a year, and was rather shy.
I started to work through the "Hands-On Tutorials" and after a month or so I decided to make my first post. I was asking for comments and help in making my first sig and I received wonderful assistance from many inmates.

In fact this is the sig in question, clicky on it if you want to see the actual thread.
The people I have met here have been ready, willing and very able to guide me through the digital maze of graphics and web design I found myself floundering in. For this I am truly grateful and I can only hope that one day I will be able to give assistance to others.
There is much lurve in our Asylum I can feel it, can you?
Sorry if this post is a little rambling I have been away for a while and It takes me a couple of days to recover (the Jameson Whiskey helps too).
While I was looking for my first sig effort I found the Asylum Desiderata I was working on too, would you like to see it again?,,, k

Click on the image for the full version. I'll have to finish that one off one of these days methinks. There are many reasons why I "love" the Asylum, the main one being the great people we have here.
Here's to another year in the Madhouse said with a large glass of Jameson held high

That`s what keeps me coming back. The suspense.

Or, it could be the huge amount of Incredibly Talented People , perfectly willing to share the information they have sweated blood to figure out...

Or it could be the fact that some of you are soooo twisted that I feel just a little bit closer to normal. Not that being normal is a good Life Goal, or anything, but at times it`s comforting to know that you`re not the last one on the outside of the fringe....

Or it could be the way these aforementioned peolple didn`t make it easy for me to make the effects I was shooting for. They made me learn...and LIKE it.

Or, maybe I just don`t have any other bookmarks .

Hmmm why I like the Asylum??

I guess it's because of the little URL button in the Post Reply part of the page. You know when you rollover it you see a little hyperlink at the bottom and I've been trying to find out where that link leads to... BUT I CAN'T GET MY MOUSE TO IN TIME!!!

But I'll still keep trying! COME HERE YOU LINK!!!

ROFL, that really infuriated me for a few seconds. Then I remembered my trusty tab button ;p

Bleh, I guess I came here due to poi references on javascript-games. I find a like-minded bunch of crazy javascript users, and all was well

I love it here, quite simply, because of you lot. You're all f***ing mad, but brilliant.

Seriously - I have never returned so frequently to any forum as I have the OA. It's the people here. Give yourselves each a big hug. Go on, you deserve it.

I'm not a very good Ozone regular anymore but I do drop in now and then, mainly when the drawing or PS urge hits or Tao send me an ICQ message. I like playing PS pong and looking at all of the creative threads. I've learned an awful lot about PS here from many talented people such as mahjqa, DarkGarden, DB, etc. I think DL's depth tutorial gave me my first good insight into the capabilities of PS. Before that I just goofed around and made super crappy eye candy stuff. But sadly, most of the time I'm stuck working and don't get a change to paint or do anything else and I'm fairly sour about that.
