Remember Andyart.com which then became screamdesign.com? Well guess what? They want you to pay $29.95 a year to get access to their site.

Give me a break.

They've been going downhill (IMHO) since the change to Scream Design. Any was cool, really, really cool. SD, is not. It was a bad move on Andy's part. However, sometimes you've got to take chances.

Oh! Did I forget to mention?

Not to worry! All registered forum members will get a great discount on the new OZONE pay-per-view plan! heh. Joke! Really. Seriously, charging money might be their only option for survival, but it might also be their own-way ticket into a death spiral. Net folks are cheap, gotta love 'em!

Yup.

They're going down for this. There are more free sites with better things, and, where the hell do you wanna get if you've got ozones?

: : Mahjqa : :

(BTW, _if_ the site would be that great (it is not), we'd also have our fellow friends, the people who figure out to get there without paying.)

From what I remember of his sites, he didn't offer advice, he sold services. So you can't really say you can come to the asylum instead, they are two completely different contents. However I would agree, you can go to so many other places and get the same tutorials, and other resrouces for free, nobody is going to pay for it if they know there are other sites out there.
And I also don't think you can charge people to come to your site in order to hire your services, basically he's cutting his own nuts off.

Heh, you gotta be pretty full of yourself to think that people should pay to gaze upon your magnificent design page. Of course, if this guy is as much of an asshole as Tycho says, then he obviously doesn't care about what his peers think of him. He may be trying to break into a corporate niche market of do-it-yourself execs who are totally clueless and figure anything that's being charged for must be better than anything that's free.

Yah, I expect to remain free, this IS my hobby, I like doing it! I may come up with little schemes periodically to try and pay a few server bills, like the t-shirt store and such, but I know what you need to do if you wanna cut your traffic by 95%, and it involves money, heh. Seriously, I wouldn't mind being rich, so many toys out there that cost big bucks, but I have other plans that could make that happen, no point tainting one of the purest and best things I ever created.

Why would you consider screamdesign to be selling out?

They are soley out to make money, they only offered free services to attract people. I suppose its smart what they've done. Suppose they get a 1,000,000 visitors a day and 5% of those visitors actually sign up for the services. At 30 bucks per person thats not a bad paycheck annually. On top of that, they'll recieve money for the services they've always provided for money such as webdesign. Those greedy bastards ... can't they share the wealth with me.

It doesn't bother me that they are going to start charging. To each there own I suppose. I rarely visit the site nor do I plan on visiting in the near future. For all I could care, they could start charing $1,000,000 per person. I don't overly like there interfaces, flash, buttons, or tutorials. They're not professional looking at all but would look fine on a personal page.

Doc, what you really need to make is one of those giant foam pointing fingers you get at basketball games and stuff. Instead of having the index finger pointing you could just have the middle finger pointing ... it would be awesome ...

Well, so far all I can get printed is t-shirts, mousepads and mugs. Finding the store is now *really* really easy, just go to a page that doesn't exist, you'll get there! (Heh. I noticed that "lost.html" was my second most frequently visited page, next to the front door! Now you get to the store.) I just got a nice shipment in from CafePress, with mugs, mousepad, and shirts. The white shirt came out SUPER cool, very sharp graphics, nice and bright. The grey shirt looked really bad, I'm going to pull it from the lineup, do not buy one of these, please! The mugs and mosuepad are my favorites, though I'm going to add a bit more definition around the logo on the mugs, still, the definition and clarity is frigging *awesome*. I'll be adding more photos to the store gallery, and I'll also be looking through my image archives to see which images might also loook good on a white background, not easy for me!

PS: They shipped to Sweden, no problems! Seems to me they'd ship to Venezuala too. Remember, mugs, white shirts and mousepads are very good, grey shirts (and presumably grey sweatshirts) are bad. Mop handles are under consideration, they might have to be of the "white plastic" variety, and I want to test quality first! =)

Two words: White Oak. White Pine is waaay to soft. Another thing you could try is a beached walnut, the wood grain on that would look nice. Maybe the wood.dex on that?

Yeah, I know my woods. I can manage a forest, but I'm lost in a field.

"Beached Walnut"? I wasn't aware that they commited suicide like that, but that is a great idea! Why chop down unwilling walnut trees when others are beaching themselves next to the whales? Great idea, very PC, if you know what I mean.

Yet again, how did we venture on this topic?
