~sigh~ I couldnt sleep last night so I watched a movie about 4am
but now I dont know the name of it or the actors name.... it's a fairly new movie on HBO
about 2 cops that go undercover and there is a famous black guy as their boss...the guy they get close to ..trying to take down is CRAZY....and some really old man dying of heart problems...has a silver tube filled with mercury sewn into his stomach to smuggle it into the country to the crazy guy....then they kill him...take it out...and sell it to some guys for 100 million dollars in bonds for these guys to make a huge bomb with. One cop seems to be a wuss and one is major tough...the tough one (famous actor that I can't remember his name) dies in the end and the wuss cop rides off on a motorcycle with the money. It was a great movie but no idea what it's called.

Lessee... good movies...

Strange Brew (which is Hamlet, if you watch carefully)
The Commitments
MST3k: Final Sacrifice
MST3k: Pumaman
MST3k: Space Mutiny
MST3k: Mitchell
Blazing Saddles " 'Scuze me while I whip this out..."
The Frisco Kid
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Henry V
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (though I liked the book better)

The MST3k movies are damn hysterical. I know Mitchell, at the very least, is available on video.

Y'know, for a (very) short time, I was part of a 'movie club' where someone picked a movie that the others hadn't seen and would probably like. I was 'invited out' after I insisted on showing a Mystery Science Theater episode for my pick, because the movie, in its MST3k form, hadn't had a cinematic showing and was just a TV show. I can't fathom why they would shoot something down for such a hideously stupid reason. Buncha intellectual snobs.

Um, the point... ah, yes; DON'T BE LIKE THAT!

Y'know, as people keep putting The Cell on their lists of good movies, it calls something to mind for me:

What the Hell is up with people bringing their young children to violent, R-rated movies? The last two times I went to see an R-rated movie in the theater, some idiot brought at least one small child with them. At "Blade", there was a five-year-old in the audience. He was crying and hiding his face while his presumed (step-)father watched the movie. At "The Cell", an entire family, with at least four kids under eleven, came in during the movie. Weird thing is, those kids -didn't- react to what was going on onscreen, which was far more disturbing than Blade (vivisected horse; graphic, violent sexual images).

What is it about having an adult with you that makes sado-masochistic necrophilia 'okay' for a child?

BTW, The Cell was not what I would call a "good" movie. Yes, it was visually interesting, but the story took the easy way out too many times.

The cell, to me, hmmm, it's not like bad, but it's not my taste, I like scientific movies like Stargate, Odyss (saw it long time ago, it's about underwater and the guy went very deep with suits and met aliens) and Mission to mars is good in my opionion. Starwar the phantom ... is pretty cool too, but I think they have spent too much film-time on the racing part, eww? (they were prabably advertising for their starwar racing game)

bug - while I certainly do hate tom cruise, he is young enough in legend that he hadn't become a complete ass yet.....so it's easy to get past the fact that it's him he has actually done 3-4 movies that were quite good (hard as it may be to believe ; )

never got into the evil dead/army of darkness movies.....they just don't do it for me.

~ducks and covers~

carlton - haven't seen the european version. is it just the music that is different?

The Legend FAQ will give all the info on the various versions. You would be surprided. The European version is edited differently. Also the Amaerican TV Version has added footage that the original release didnt have.

There is alot of crap in this list :P From Dusk Till Dawn was the worst movie ever made, what a let down. Along side that is Adam Sandlers 'Over Board' and now 'AI' *inhibit gag reflex*...

Some great films that were mentioned were 'The usual suspects', 'Princess Bride', and of course the 'Evil Dead' trillogy which contains 'Evil Dead' 1 and 2 and the last part 'Army of darkness'.

One I didn't see (maybe I missed it) is 'Ninja Scroll' which is without question the best Anima film ever made!!

'Keeping the faith' was Ok, as was 'Little Nicky' for a laugh. There was also another film with chris rock, silent bob, jay, ben aflick, etc... where chris rock is the 14th apostle and ben aflick is an angel banned from heaven, can't remember the name, but it was good.

Say what you want about Bogart, but "The African Queen" was a great movie.

And so was "Casablanca"

And don't forget "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"

that's not acting....it's 'reading'

whether bogart read or not does not detract from either the movies or his performances.. lucky for him he got to be in some great movies in which his character 'fit' right in

yup, I'll agree with that

as long as we agree that he had no actual acting talent

DL,
I was going to agree with you about your comment that "he played the same character in all of them" but the more I thought about it, that may be true for most of them, but I don't think that holds true for "African Queen".

Sorry Shi, I haven't seen that movie, but Gary Shandling????
