As I mentioned to Wakkos, Hiddink is very confident concerning the upcoming match--he's coached in Spain, and he knows the Spanish team very well. On the other hand, the fact that no one really knows the Korean team has worked to their advantage. Personally, I think Korea stands a better chance against Spain than they did against Italy. It's still going to be a good game, though.

Of course, if my wishes come true and both Korea and the US win, they'll have to face each other again. That's not something I really want to happen, but on the positive side it means at least one of my teams will go through.

Well, there's a goal, but's it wasn't scored by the team I was hoping would score it. Still, though, we've outplayed the Germans so far, and if we can just keep our heads on our shoulders we can get back into it.

Getting yellow cards, however, is not the way to keep your head on your shoulders.

[We've got to stop giving them close free kicks like this. It's killing us.]

I know I can't say this without sounding biased (because I am), but that was a game we should have won. On the positive side, I think US football is definitely on the rise, and I expect better things next year. Now only one of my teams is left, and they face Spain tomorrow.

suho, to get back to that handling:
the rules say, that it is only handling if the player is actively influencing the direction of the ball. and in that case the ball got shot on the hand and german defender even wanted to pull his hand away.

i remember france 98' when italy lost because of a wrong decision in nearly the same situation. it was roberto baggio who caused a "hands" which wasnt really one! then the others got an 11-meter and italy was out. like always italy is loosing because of wrong referre decisions.

webshaman, why the hell are you posting "go usa" hundred times in the same thread? isnt it enough one time?
anyway... lucky germany did it again.

Grumble: I understand the rules, but I'm still not sure if the player wasn't trying to actively influence the ball. It was his arm, after all, that prevented the ball from going in. As I said before, though, it is now a moot point. Whether it was a good call or a bad call, it's not going to change the result. Lucky Germany is right, though.

Wakkos: *sigh* We'll just have to see how tomorrow's match goes, won't we? Don't be too confident of a victory, though. Unfortunately, I won't be around to comment here. I'll be away for most of the weekend. Hope you enjoy the match, whichever way it does go.

I find it interesting, though, how Korea is merely underestimated, while the US is hated. Not surprising, of course, just interesting... it's a lot easier to root for a team that people don't hate, just underestimate.

Please, Grumble, for the love of God, tell me you are not one of the people who think the referee "gave" the match to Korea. It's embarassing, for crying out loud. Sorry, but I'm a bit on edge because of that.

Well, it's over...too bad with the hand-play (should have been 11 meter), but them's the breaks....however, the Germans did not impress me...on the contrary...the US played an overwhelmingly dominate game...but without a goal, you can't win.

So congrats Germany...(yes, I am a fair loser...even if it is said with gritted teeth, our boys played very well, and can go home with their heads held high).

@Grumble - sorry if it bothered you...but I was pretty hyped for our boys...if I offended anyone with that, then I apologize..

But at least I don't hide behind referees, now, do I? Wanna win? Shoot some goals. Period. That's why America lost. Calls (from referees) to the side, the ball has to go into the goal to win...and we just didn't do that...and Germany did. Nothing else matters but the end result.

As far as Italy goes, they are cry babies...instead of concentrating on the real failures (i.e. not making the many goal chances into goals).

But them's the breaks...

Go Korea!!!!!

suho, i am not referring to the korea game specially (but also this one). i mean in general italy often had bad luck with referees in the last WMs and EMs except for the USA94 finale.

edit:
quote: the referee "gave" the match to Korea.

he didnt give it korea, but his wrong decision made korea win. infact, be honest suho, the one goal italy scored in the after time was regular and totti's red card was infact a foul which would have brought another 11-meter for italy. and the 11-meter foul in the beginning of the game was also not a foul, so after all italy should have won 3:0 if everything would be correct and if i am a fuckin bastard italian faschist. wuhahaha....
dont take me serious suho.

well im outta here for the next 3 days, there is europe's biggest outdoor party goin on at my place!

GREAT GAME by both sides .. even though we all know who fought the harder match .. I think the only mistake was made by the US Goal Keeper .. that ball was far to close to his goal line and he should have come OUT to jump for it .. instead he was PINNED on his goal line .. and couldn't do much .. that was the only mistake that cost US the game

good game by both sides .. though US just didn't prevail on it's golden opportunities

Suho, I'm not underestimating the Korean TEam!!
they have a lot of probabilities of winning that game!!
I'm a little scared because of that!

What we call here 'the red tide' is going to be our worst enemy, besides of the really fast Korean Game, add that the fact that Hiddink knows very good the spanish team (he speaks perfect spanish too!)

So, we will see!!
I wish spain wins, but I have no reasons to say that Spain is going to win. It's going to be a hard game.

It has started...sorry wakky but...Go Korea!

Looks like its going to be a hard match...still 0-0.

Still 0-0, however, should it continue at its present state, Korea will win...the Koreans are putting great pressure on the Spanish...

Half-time...and still 0-0. The second half will be hotly contested, I think. Really surprised that the Koreans are playing such good soccer. Of course, the Spanish are also playing well. Should be a very interesting second half.

Whoever wins will crush the Germans with this level of soccer...the Germans just are not in this league...unless they 'fix' their game dramatically...

No, it wasn't valid.

Spain is in big trouble at the moment...the Koreans are building momentum, and are running through the Spanish defence as if it wasn't there...only the attacks are not all that well coordinated...the only reason that Spain is still in the game.

Spain needs to do something fast, or the koreans will eventually get it together...and score.

What is Spain thinking??!!?? The last couple of 'attacks' (if you could call them that) have not been worthy of Spain...I've seen them play much better...

Still 0-0 though...

I think the call was off-sides...

The Germans kinda skipped over it, too, but the sideline referee had that flag up, so...

Ok, it seems the Spanish are starting to move something...and the Koreans are somehow...getting tired? The Korean attack is faltering...

Unless something unusual happens, this game will go into over-time...but that last shot from Korea was not bad...

Ok, as expected, over-time...this could be interesting...

For the game...pretty uninteresting (as far as goals go...). I would say the Koreans played better than the Spanish, but have no goal to show it.

Now it all comes down to who scores first...or we go to 11 meter shooting...
