![]() Why can't we have Applet Sigs? |

![]() its a cool idea! but i even would like the idea of flash sigs more! |
Bipolar (III) Inmate From: the space between us |
![]() flash sigs are a nice idea, G, really! |
Lunatic (VI) Mad Scientist From: the Psychiatric Ward |
![]() mmmm.... nice bright flash anoying sigs? |
Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: New California |
![]() It is an interesting idea. I think the potential for abuse is great but if any group of people can do good things with it... it would be us |
Lunatic (VI) Mad Scientist From: Massachusetts, USA |
![]() In my opinion, one hundred excellent flash sigs aren't worth the single humungous, horrible, distracting one that the author will be too lazy to change. |
Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: Where I'm from isn't where I'm at! |

![]() It's a security issue, not a potential annoyance issue. Enabling html is a risk on any forum - it's been discussed somewhere - much mischief can be wrecked with html enabled. |
Maniac (V) Mad Scientist with Finglongers From: Cell 53, East Wing |
![]() Steve: Enabling HTML is a security issue but GRUMBLE has suggested something like [flash][/flash] which would let us work around that - which is why I was concentrating on the other problems |
Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Omicron Persei 8 |
![]() Hugh, flash sigs would take much less space than an equivalent gif-sig. |
Paranoid (IV) Inmate From: Dublin, Ireland |
![]() Grumble: True, but if people could use flash as sigs they'd probably put audio into it, and people who make gif animations to the equivelant in a flash sig are fools to begin with. Myself I dont have the latest flash thingy and I dont think my Java compiler works. |
Paranoid (IV) Mad Scientist From: Omicron Persei 8 |
![]() oh yeah, didnt think about the audio. |
Maniac (V) Inmate From: Boston, MA, USA |
![]() Emps - what makes you think security can't be compromised by Flash sigs? Oh my goodness - anything scriptable is potentially a risk, and Flash can trigger .exe files on a PC plus who knows what else. There was a thread running at were-here that the administrators at first tried to supress but finally gave up - basically how a cracker could cause mayhem (wipe a hard drive maybe? can't remember exactly) with Flash. The admins finally gave up because they figured it was important info for legitimate developers and sys admins, but their first instinct was to lock the thread. I didn't follow it, 'cause I didn't understand it, but I certainly did understand that , just like JavaScript, Flash could cause "bad things" to happen. |

![]() Steve: Thanks for that news Flash (geddit?? New to me - although I suppose it shouldn't be) and I suspect InI could tell us the same horror stories about Java. |
Maniac (V) Inmate From: A little lower... lower... ahhhhhh, thats the spot |
![]() I think Flash sigs would be a fun toy with a few rules. |
Maniac (V) Mad Scientist From: Jacks raging bile duct.... |
![]() I have a 56K modem in which I barely can get a pathetic 42.6K connection speed. I usually surf the Asylum w/o graphics turned on cause it takes forever to load these pages with images for sigs.... |
