jaja, i haven't see the year book 'till now!!! what a great design, i was laughing (?) hard for a while!!!

But, i used this script, dunno if Bunchapixels wants to check it, the difference is that the "name" moves as the mouse does.....


BTW, the next year book, tell me to send my pic!! (or take it from my sig!)

as far as development goes, thanks for the suggestions, if i get some spare time, i'll consider adjusting/replacing the rollover script.
but im happy to add any asylumnites... the rollcall is pretty flexible that way.
a few simple steps for you to follow:
1) make your pixel person, and perhaps adjust it to suit in photoshop, or whatever.
2) save it as a transparent gif, matte at #400404, or a transparent PSD.
3) email it to me, or post it up here.
4) email me the following information, preferably in array format:
yourName = new Array('your Ozone Name','your Email address','URL of homepage','additional URL','and another...');
example:
docOzone = new Array('docOzone','doc@bugtown.com','www.ozones.com','www.ozoneasylum.com');
5) send $50 in unmarked bills to an address that i will disclose to you at a further date. expect delivery in 6-8 working days.

what about joining the linear locator and the PPP?

on hovering the names on the map, the pic of the person appears. (just the head, if we dont have enough space)

and then we need a link to it on the asylum's starting space, and a script, that can add people automatically!

Given the fact that there are only 130 options in 7 categories I was a tad sceptical about getting a good result (the hair it appears is critical). However, I got a pretty good likeness and with a bit of fiddling it worked out fine.

Question:

This is a great fun application but is rather let down by the number of options. How easy would it be to create something similar using JavaScript (and server side processing?)?

The number of possibilities is not very high, because that is only a demo (you have to buy full version of applet if you want to use it on your web site / community)...

The advantage of having a more open project is that one could accept other people's efforts after agreeing some basic standards (height, width, head size, etc.). The trickiest bit would be producing a wireframe skeleton to hang the bodies off and producing the first few bodies.

You raise an interesting point Mr Max and one there probably isn't a clear cut response to. If one were to take all stor's graphics and produce a replica of their Java applet then they would (perfectly reasonably) roast you in legal Hell but how does their claim on the idea extend? Providing a way for people to produces cartoon like avatars can't be a copyrightable idea.
