Why do you have two shortcuts to Windows Mediaplayer on your taskbar?

anybody knows how to fix that?

kretsminky: the 2nd shortcut is for mplayer2.exe (the older and faster Mediaplayer)

Buy more memory?

How much memory do you have? Try going into preferences and playing with the amount of memory PS uses. Get a program like Cacheman, Rambooster, etc to help optimize your RAM.

Obviously you need something!

Go to Adobe's homepage and look on the forums. I have heard that PS has some "issues" with Win2k. I would say try that.

There is an Adobe Registration Database file somewhere on your hd. I'm on a mac so I don't know where yours is. Find it. Delete it. Re-install. Does that work?

It may help.

There's an update for PS5.5 to work properly with Win2k so that it won't break anymore. Don't remember where it is. But I don't care, since I'm on 6.01 anyway. So fuck all y'all.

You only have 128 Mb memory and you running that many background apps, with WinMX & IE open. On Win2K. No wonder you system's having trouble with Photoshop! Windows 2000 Eats Memory for breakfeast! Do you know how to check how many system resources are free?

Try closing down all of your other apps, and as many background app as you can...

Did you set a static Virtual Memory file size? If so how big did you make it?? (You'll want it to be at least 4X your RAM is your using PS)

You really should have atleast 256 Mb of RAM to multitast with Apps like PS in Windows 2000.

These may not be the cause of you problem, but you system will be suffering because of this. Well, it will the way you currently use it anyway (not saying this is a bad thing). If you don't have so many things open at once, then you'll be fine with only 128Mb RAM. Otherwise think about getting another 128, RAM's cheap now days ($80 Australian for 128, which is about $40 or $50 US i think), and Photoshop will love you for it! Furthermore, you'll be able to have more programs open at once and your Computer won't slow down as much!

Every time you switch between applications and you computer has to access the Hard Drive just to display the Application Window, You've run out of Ram and It's using the Virtual Memory (Which is you Hard Drive prentending to be RAM, which is can do, be very very slowly!).

well, i bought 2x256mb but they didn't work on my motherboard.
each counts up to 255mb and then i get some ascii codes on the screen.
the customer said that this has to do with chips on the dimms.
i borrow a single 256mb module from my friend and it work fine, but he cannot remember where he bought his RAM.

so what can i do now? what combination of chips do i need?

Maybe there's a problem with your motherboard (it doesn't have to be RAM module)...

Sounds to me like you may have been using the wrong type of ram, you bought cheep ram, or have your ram settings messed up in your BIOS (assuming your mobo handles 528MB). I doubt it's a mobo problem, but like max said, it is possible. Do you have access to a diagnostics proggie? A good one that I use here at work is called PC Clinic from datadepo.com. Your mobo manual should give you specs for ram that will work with your mobo... take that and order some ram online (there are tons of sites), but don't waste your time with the cheep stuff, bye some premium ram. I recently bought a 128MB DIMM for only $50 (premium) so it's not much more expensive, just more in manufacturers spec.

Good luck

I had the same error only last week after installing some plug-ins - The plug ins appeared to go in ok, then I opened Photoshop and got that same message. I swiftly (panicing) removed the plugins, and the problems remained...

I then (after crying for a moment) rebooted, and the problem was gone...

I then shut down and slumped in front of the tv... dried my tears, and smoked something relaxing.
