I'm trying to get an effect like www.ozones sphear but not exactly like it. I've messed around with sphearzie on Adobe and I'm not certain how to pull off that effect.

I've looked around and haven't seen any tutorials anywhere, in the middle of my sphear I want to have the letter r, but that's not irrelevant.

If you guys can help me by giving me the linkage I'll need to find a tutorial on it or just by explaining what I need to do, that'd be much appreciated.

I think Doc used Bryce for that sphere..? Don't qoute me on that though. He could have just drawn it by hand...

But there's his Hands On tutes which has the Glass Sphere tute (Link at bottom of this page). There's also a heap of old threds on making cool glass orbs and stuff in the PS section here. the Gurur's Network (link also at bottom of page) has Steve's Displace tute which get recommended to someone about every week cause it kicks ass (Cool glass orb stuff...). Finaly, I think there's also a tute at www.phong.com for making reflective/metalic spheres.

That help?

Doc's been using that sphere a for a while.

I can confirm that he used bryce and his favorite fire pic to get that the way he wanted it.
I think these are the orginals

otherwise check out his glass tute to get something like it

I think a lot of the best graphics I've seen are done in a combination of some sort of 3D prog and then PS to tweak the rendering.

I should have been more descriptive...

But for my sphere I want it to have like a caged effect, kind of like he has at ozone.com but like a cage, a more metal type struction with the letter R in the middle.

His hands on tutorials is just talking about how to make glass marbles but I still don't know how to get the effect where it' an actual globe like structure and you can see both sides of the sphere, front and back.

Bryce and fiddling for years.

It used to be a weekly occurance that someone would mention:

In order to become great at PhotoShop you need to first understand the tools, and what you are working with. But then most important, you need to mess around, and try new and different things. It is an OK idea to work threw tutorials, but if that is all that you ever do, there is no way you can learn and improve. You need to work with the techniques that you learn, and expand upon them. In that way you will actually learn. And if you do this for years you will start going places.

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned in a while is:

Photoshop is not like other computer program. You can not follow a standard set of rules, and have great results. Using photoshop is art. You have to treat it as such. You can not pick it up in a night, or in a week. It is a very consuming process. If you do treat it like such you will begin to improve, and to get results. But if you treat it as just another computer program you will not go anywhere with it. It will just be another program, void of real fealing, meaning, and most important eye appeal. If you have a great artistic mind, you will find it much easier to work with photoshop, yet it is still a new tool and it does take getting used to. A pen and ink designer does not have an easy time when he first picks up his paint brush, he has to learn the new tool, before he/she can apply the knowledge. It is a long learning process, but it is all worth while.

Nothing here come really quickly. However, if you are looking for some nice cool quick results, then by all means hire one of us, and we will get it done for you

Sorry if you just thought I don't know anything about photoshop but I do just not as much as some others.

And on a side note, warmage... I want to learn for myself not buy it off someone else. It won't help me in the long run, you can't learn if you don't try I suppose I'll just keep trying until I get exactly what I want. I have three months to figure it out so... I should be fine.

Try using the program bryce, if you dont have it, keep on going with photoshop your doing good, just load the cage selection and add a texture of a metal or something, then try adding an inner shadow, and a soft dropshadow.

Photoshop is a powerful 2d image editing program, but not really designed as a 3d program. To achieve 3d effects in photoshop, you can make head on views, but to get an object to look 3d, the preferred method seems to be having a viewpoint from an angle (generally top front and to the left/right), so as to gain perspective and depth. To do these sort of views properly for complex objects, you must have either a) an amazingly good idea of perspectives and vanishing points or b) a 3d rendering program, or maybe even c) a magic wand. Till then ure stuck with simple head on viewpoints...

Of course if I ever got involved in a topic like this I'd probably not have much of a chance to post like an asshole, as I'd be laughing too hard about illiteracy spreading, and the inability to make a fucking ball in Photoshop.

But then again, it's not like single perspective spheres (sphears? PHEER!!!!!) have ever been covered here before.
