Funny thing, really.

All the stuff in your dhtml scrolling area, link or no link, is considered blanket text on IE5/Mac. Which means I cannot click on your wallpapers, or any of the text links. Funny stuff.

To my knowledge, no one's found a solution to that problem, except to put invisible "clear" gif images over the links to be clicked on. IE 5/mac is a bit annoying.

Not *annoying* Slime... Just different.

Now NN4... THAT's annoying.

Oh, and we might as well point out that Opera and Mozilla are different too...and Lynx and all the rest of 'em.

Just as long as you agree that NN4 is annoying, you can say anything you want about other browsers. =)

ok, im gonna start ramblin'....
nice - i really like it.
but that doesnt mean i dont have any faults to pick with it.
1) navigation - i think some mouseover work here would be great. you should involve the user more. im also not sure if the dropshadows really add anything to the look of this place, either. i do, however, really like the circle around the current area - really neat, nice and friendly for the user, and fits in with the rest of the page perfectly.
well, not perfectly - all the other curves are a little more organic. make it a real winner, and make the circle a little elliptical, like the one at the top of the page.

2) scroller - nice, subtle colors used, but again, mousovers could be nice here (not essential, of course.) just maybe, make it whiter onmouseover. my other complaint is that it looks like it should start scrolling when the mouse enters the circle, not jsut the little triangle.

additionally, im not that sure about the little light bit on the left. know what i mean? its like an extension of the main scrolling body area, just under that neat little swirl. what's it there for?

other than that - i dont really understand the dot in the "M" on the ".COM", but hey.
ooh - when one is on the "links" page, the circle gets chopped off, and looks off centre. i dont like that.

anyway, as i was saying, these are all little things really, and at the end of the day, i love your site, the colors and background are fantastic, and i think you use your space really well. if you are only going to take one constuctive comment away from this post, then take this one: make the circle elliptical!

im done!

Slime, what problem are you referring to? It seems like you are saying you can't have text on a div that you can click the links on? Am I misreading this?

Your little curly Q thingy on the lower right, shouldn't that be OVER the text? You could use a bit of z-index to make it be over the scrolling box instead of under it know what I am sayin?

hey all i just wanted to thank you for your input - its really appreciated!

bunchapixels -
1) you rock, thanks for giving such insightful feedback. im definetly going to make good use of it.

2) the extra gray area is just to get away from the "rectangle" look, i didnt want to just have a grey box in the center, because i liked the "seamless horizontal" look. But i didnt continue it to the other side... i tried but it looked a little cheesy.

3) the mouseover idea is a very good point, i didnt want to bog down the site with tons of graphics though, well I mean I already did, but i didnt want overkill. if i were to try mouseovers, what suggestions do u have for when the user mouses over a menu item?

4) the last circle gets cut off on purpose - i dunno - i kinda liked it, it makes an odd shape with the right hand curvature. i like the idea of making the circle more elliptical - i'll have to try that one out.

kretsminksy,

how do i do what you just described about making the text go underneath the curve. anywhere i can learn?

Thanks so much all,
Vin

Bug, I believe, in IE on macs, if you have a div within another div, a common technique for making scrolling effects, any links on the first div aren't "clickable".

Slime, now that's interesing. On my main dhtml page, I have a scrollable div within a div and all the links work fine using Mac IE5. Maybe I did it differently than usual? Maybe I'm using a different version of Mac IE5? (Internet Explorer 5 Macintosh Edition)

I was unaware that this was even a problem. Was this a thread I missed in the dhtml section?

Crashes? Like the browser crashes before the page loads? The only problem I'm aware of with Mac IE5 with this page is that when you drag the windows around they leave a trail and don't redraw properly.

Does this go for my homepage as well?

Bugimus... I'm on IE5 Mac, G4/466, 1280x1024. Everythings smooth and beautiful.. very cool indeed.. cudos.
Twitch... somethin funky with your machine? I almost never have any trouble anywhere.. cept Doc's webcam.. Real player is crap on my machine, even updated and everything. Oh.. and phlopcat's dhtml scrolling area is a problem as previously reported.

Hey, anybody know why somebody would need access to Line Printer Daemon Protocol, port 515? Just got around to tryin this firewall out and find all these access attempts confusing at best. This one just came from 203.232.134.135. This should probly be some other thread in some other forum but the timing was too convenient.
