Actually Mahjqa I left it big so you could do that! Well what I did was I found the little tab called optimize, and so when I saved it as a gif the first time I left no optimiztion settings. Then when I re-opened it I cut out the backround with the magic wand tool set to 0 tolerance and then ctrl + X to cut it out. Then I went back to that little optimization tab and clicked 128 colors, no dither, adaptive, transparency (mattle=2B0404), then I went to file and hit Save Optimized As. I clicked output settings and went to backround and seletected the mattle color once again then saved exited and reopned and it was transparent!

Hmmm... Ok so each frame I was to move it up 4 spaces? Not 2?

Yup.

(just to make sure; you don't have to recreate the whole animation, just delete the frames with an even number and you're done.)

Originality lies in relegating what you already know... dont ask for too much advice, insider - just go and do it while saying to yourself "i know nothing, this could be better" every 3 or so hours. Results should turn out to be outstanding, not a remake of a tutorial. Use tutorials as impulse, not as source.

Arth, I made that as a sig... And then asked mahjqa for transparency help, I did it all on my own with my own style.

Ok ok, I have wanted to try my hand at a little pyrotechnics ever since I saw Mahjqa do his first flame. I haven't gotten around to doing it for this long. Well today I sat down and, like a Nike shoe, just did it. I don't think it is too bad for my first try. There is still stuff I don't understand on it but I'll keep working at it. But for now at least I have the basic idea.



(I didn't try any transparency stuff yet. I didn't want my ass kicked that bad today.)

mayhapps yas couldz make em smallah? by the way, did you know that it goes REALLY REALLY fast in NN? It looks like all the frames are set at 0 seconds. (It gos slo in IE)

izzy, i've noticed this before. why do certain versions of navigator display gif's differently than explorer

Well actually the frames were set to no delay, its moving slower in IE5 then in the origanal gif but not by much.

I finally had to give it a go, too.

I still have a few mask issures to work out, but it`s fun to play with. Thanks, Mahjqa.

Mahjqa...You have to make a tutorial on this. This is great...I love it but I am having a hard time understanding how you get the clouds layer not to jump or look out of place...I had given up one day and I forogt to save.....DOH!!

I too would like a t00t on this. I understand the cloud part fine, but the option 1 and option 2 part of the .psd is a bit hard for me. Like I don't understand what the gradients are doing or how to make them.

Well the gradient map isn't that hard, running on ps6 its pretty easy. Just when you are finished with the mask, and then atleast one cloud frame, click the mask layer and oh... what is it... I think there is a tab called "new" and look around and find gradient map, then reverse the gradient; move it so you can see your image, and then start with dark colors and end with fairly almost white colors, or just fool around with it.

heee heee! I think smoke does not mix with 2 background colors! I actually got a verson that would have worked... but it was over 112kbz. A bit big.

Flame is cool but the text hurts me. But like I said the flame is cool .

Wang, you disappoint me. I want to see you do fire at the end of a branding iron, damn it.

The text is wood, and (modesty aside) looks pretty cool at its original size. The black spots are (were) going to be charred areas that glow red, but it doesn't show at this size. I still have issues about pics still looking cool once they're sized down, but I really enjoy working at larger sizes.

WJ - Branding iron? Why didn't I think of that?!? Cool!!! *Scurries away to start researching branding irons...*

Easy...big piece of iron forged into the shape that you want to brand, joined to a big wood and iron handle. The front part is heated to red hot, and is viciously jabbed and held against the skin of an animal which really doesn't deserve it (I really don't like branding irons)

You know the tecniqe also workes for non-animated fire as well! And it works very well i must say!

yes please post a tut on this, I'm quite the newb and thus far I haven't been able to follow...
what I did was create a 256x256 work area, added clouds, then took it into image read and
nudged it 4px in each frame... lets just say I'm very not pleased with my lack of knowledge...

Well I would consider doing a tut on this but for the following reasons I don't think I could:

1: I am not that good with Photoshop/IReady (Although I do learn quickly).

2: I am not sure that I am allowed to even write a tut on GN. Or am I?

3: I haven't yet mastered the fire techniqe.....

4: I think Mahjqa has the right idea and expirience to do it...

Insider, none of these things matter, but I'll agree with #4 (unless he graces one of us to do it for him).
Mahjqa, are there any other filters besides (difference)clouds that repeat under special dimensions? Do all PS filters do that? o.O Am I so intrigued to go try myself? YES!

where've you been? nice to hear somethin from the old crew.

Bmud; as far as I know, the clouds filter is the only one that does this.

Remember after u have the clouds its Ctrl + M then make a shape of an M to get the cloud "details" that u need to really appear through the mask.
