OK, There may be some overlap here, but I want to leave plenty of open territory.

This month, the SIG CONTEST is all about machines. If you`re confused about what that means, see this .

NO recycles, new material only. Be mindful of file size, and remember this is a sig contest, so make it like you`re gonna use it.
A suggestion to the grumblers and late comers from last month, start early, and enter often.

SO just go to dictionary.com and punch it in, if there's any confusion.

Just to make things clear, when is the last date and time you can send in your sig? I think you'll understand that it quite sucks if your entry can't compete since the competition closes a few days earlier.

i suggest its better to close comps later than earlier. so we catch the "worst case" too.

Oh for christ's sake.....the LAST day of the month isn't a few days early.

If you plan on entering, do it! If you're too late, oh well - you've got a cool new sig to use. (and like DB said, make like you're gonna use it.....).

Or to put it another way (aka: my take on the situation):

1. The sig contest is run by the inmate who won the previous competition has so clearly has to be worked around their schedule (not everyone elses). Advanced warning would be nice but:

2. The person running the competition can do what they want within the general rules, i.e., decide when to judge the competition (and who they pick) and as long as it isn't outrageously early or late (like weeks).

If you do leave your sig until the very last days then sometimes you are going to get burned, however, I would imagine that sometimes you get a few extra days so I'm sure it balances out.

I wouldn't like it if we had to impose very strick rules on the start and finish dates (as a little flexibility is always good and people have benefitted from a few days extra) but if the forum admins think that would be the best idea to prevent misunderstanding and problems then that is their call - update the rules (there is a version in the FAQ) and make sure everyone knows.

Now can we get back to db's competition (it sounds like a great topic db!!)?

Ok, look. I wanted to keep this simple. I wanted to leave some room for you to work, and I wanted to save some space. For those who can`t leave a simple thing simple, for the brain dead, and the whiners, here it is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ma·chine [m shn ] noun (plural ma·chines)

1. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING mechanical device: a device with moving parts, often powered by electricity, used to perform a task, especially one that would otherwise be done by hand a washing machine

2. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING simple unpowered device: a simple device used to overcome resistance at one point by applying force at another point, for example, a lever, pulley, or an inclined plane

3. powered form of transportation: an engine-driven means of transportation, for example, an aircraft, car, or motorcycle

4. POLITICS group of people in control: an organized group of people that controls or directs something, especially a political group the party machine

5. complex system: a complex system structured so as to accomplish a specific goal the war machine

6. somebody who behaves mechanically: somebody who acts or works like a mechanical device, for example, somebody who is very efficient or who shows no emotion or initiative an editing machine

7. THEATER device to produce stage effects: a mechanical device used in the theater, especially in classical drama, to create special effects such as the entrance of a supernatural being

8. LITERATURE literary device: somebody or something introduced into a work of literature to produce an effect or to resolve the plot

verb (past ma·chined, past participle ma·chined, present participle ma·chin·ing, 3rd person present singular ma·chines)

1. transitive and intransitive verb work with power-driven tool: to cut, shape, or finish a piece of work using a power-driven tool such as a lathe or drilling device, or to be cut, shaped, or finished in this way

2. transitive verb use machine on something: to make or do something using a machine

[Mid-16th century. Via Old French from Latin machina , "device, engine, contrivance" from, ultimately, Greek mkhan (source of English mechanic), from Greek mkhos "contrivance, means."]

====================================================================================

OK? Get it now ? If you still need clarification, go ask your Mommy.
On dates, If it`s the last of the month ( this one has 31), and your entry is 50% done, you`re probably NOT going to make it. My suggestion is not to wait until the last minute to post you entry. I`m a flakey kind of guy. At 11:37 pm, July 31 ( give or take a day, CST ) I may just decide to judge what`s been put up. I may wait til Sept 3.Wouldn`t THAT be total chaos ?
We try to keep things flexible because that`s the way life is. Deal with it. Or don`t.
In recent months, this has turned into a clusterfuck. This one will not. I`ll shut it down first.

This is a simple, easy, non-world-shattering, supposed to be fun, thing. If you want to play, get it up. If you don`t shut it up.

Of course he wins, mine's really a quick job of being silly.

Btw, if you make the internal balls move just a bit, as well as having the swingers pass behind the bars (currently your strings are defying the physics you try so hard to emulate) it'll be much more realistic. That, and set the Matte color to 40,4,4, so you don't have all that scary white stuff.

is it just me or does the frame flinch after the 'I' ball swings down? Another note....shouldn't the two swinging letters rotate with the ball?

Looks good though.....nice idea.

Too bad there is no recycles allowed.....i got a good one. I want post it because the filesize is huge but the link is here.

Thanks guys, but I wanna hear from DB if it qualifies because really its physics not mechanics.

Yes it flinches, why I do not know, and yes the letters should rotate with the ball but that would be incredibly hard for the way I made that sig, took me 3 hours .

ok, ~shit~ I thought I was fairly clear about this before.
The rules ( such as they are ) are posted above. If you still don`t understand them, go ask your Mommy.

If someone can explain to me what part of that is difficult to absorb, maybe I can be more clear. Maybe I shouldn`t try. It doesn`t seem to be making much difference.

In short ( and to re-iterate, yet again) If you have a sig to enter, put it up.
If you don`t, shut up.
I`ll judge them when I`m damn good and ready.
I will not qualify/dis-qualify every sig that gets posted.
If you still don`t understand, maybe you should be watching cartoons instead..
Let`s just not try to over think this...just play the game, or don`t., Sheesh. they`re just sigs, fer cryin out loud.
This is not supposed tp be complex.

He did answer... if it doesn't qualify, it wont win. Simple. Why does it matter right now if it qualifies or not? You've already made it, you can't unmake it and get your time back if it doesn't work.

Its not like you're physically unable to go and make some more that certainly *do* qualify.
