I'm watching a show on TV right now about some people who are undergoing plastic surgery. One of them is a man (and I use that term very loosely) who is getting calf implants.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I have known that kind of thing goes on for a while, but I always thought it was bodybuilders or models that get stuff like that. Pardon me while I drink my Evian.

So ladies, is this a deal breaker? I mean, have you ever walked into a bar and said to yourself "wow, that guy over there is fine! Oh, wait, his calves are WAY small, what a loser."

Normally I would feel sorry for someone like that but this guy was a jackass who thought way too much of himself.

But hey, if you want boobs on your legs, go for it man.

Personally, I'm going for lovehandle implants. Oh yeah baby.

During the Renaissance, a "well-turned" calf was considered both manly and erotic. People who were insufficiently endowed in the calf department would often stuff their hose with cotton to give their calves a more shapely appearance.

That said, this guy's a moron.

The back of the lower part of the leg. The front is called the "shin," the back is called the "calf."

A calf is also a baby cow. If you're at a restaurant, make sure you're getting the right thing.

Aahhh....probably the last place i'd get plastic surgery. Naaa, i'd never get any form of plastic surgery thats for sure

Why is it that just because he is having cosmetic surgery he is less of a man? Men get surgery almost as much as women. We need to face it....we are a VERY vain soceiety.

I fall back on that whole live and let live thing. Its his body, his money, more power too him!

In most cases, I tend to abide by the 'live and let live' philosophy.

But this is just plain wrong.

And not just because he's a man. Plastic surgury purely for the sake of avoiding having to exercise your muscles to get them properly formed is as close to evil as you get wihtout violence.

I've caught quite a few of these shows where they follow a group of people through their superficial 'enhancements'...it's really sad watching them all react like they're going under the knife to cure their cancer or something...and soak up sympathy as if they actually have something to be sypathetic about.

It's a truly disgusting reminder of how shitty humanity can really be (and it has nothing to do with 'america' or modern society...we've always been this way....)

And yes, it does indeed make him less of a man. It makes him less of a person. Period.

DL, its not always that easy. The calf is proberbly the hardest muscle to develope along with the forearms due to very tough muscle fibres and a limited range of motion. I have been genetically gifted with large calfs (18") and so I have never needed to work them but others arn't so lucky. Arnold cut the bottom off of all his pants when he had weak calfs so everyone could see them. It was his way of motivating himself to build them up. People of ethnic origin are particularly given to small calfs and even with steroids they rarely develope into world class. some body building organisations have outlawed inplants in competition which is fair enough but the guidelines become blured when contestants are allowed to use chemical assistance. If a guy wants to improve his personal look through surgery and doesn't intend to compete on the same 'level' playing field as everyone else then let him get on with it. No one complains when they see women flaunting their breast inplants.

Uh...I complain when women flaunt their breast implants.

But then the idea of Bigger Boobs Through Modern Alchemy is just a touch disturbing for me. But hey, it's your body, go nuts.

Personally if the guy gets the implants and goes around telling everyone what great implants he got, and how they can get some too..then who cares? Hell, if he has the money, and the lack of shame, more power to him.

Now consider that the money could be used for various and sundry things that aren't purely cosmetic and ridiculous, you start wondering as to his mental stability, or capacity.

Again, though...not my body, so let the moron insert rubber wherever he wants.

As far as personal opinion...well it goes like this:

Every time I see a pair of obviously fake breasts (and I wish it was a lesser number than it is) I always think the same thing...

"Well, there goes a wasted down payment on a really great car."

But then, who am I to question someone's warped sense of self, and the sad and sick society that helps instill that in them...

It's funny...I just watched a show last night on how the LA district attorney is prosecuting a Porn company becuase they released a film that includes some Fisting scenes (if you have to ask, don't worry ).

Four fingers is perfectly acceptable, but add the thumb and it's obscene to the point of prosecution...even though you can only buy the film in stores that you have to be 18 to get into and only exist for the purpose of selling porn.

I suppose there is a world of difference between having a nose piercing and getting a nose job?

If you want to think about something a little bit, think about this: Some where out there, there is someone who thinks every single thing about YOU is absolutly completely fucking disgusting. They think the way you look, the clothes you wear, the way your hair falls, the car you drive, your piercings, your lack of piercings, your tattoos, your unblemished perfect flesh, your nose jobbed, tucked fake face, your saggy wrinkly natural face, EVERTHING is wholly without redeming characteristics. Even further they think everything about you is fucked up! Ugly! Hiddeous. And you know what, you've met this person, they smiled at you, they treated you kindly, they didn't say anything about how ugly you are. You know why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. And they are strong enough to get over it.

Or just wait until its cool to talk shit about something you happen to be. Then you will understand.

I'm pretty much 100% unmodified in most respects, no tattoos, no piercings, no cosmetic surgery, hmm, wait! I had a bunch of orthodontistry when I was a kid, my teeth had a huge gap in the middle, was it odd or strange to fix that? I also had a friend who got hair implants to fight off his balding, the freak! I don't know, I can't get too uptight about it.

Personally, I have no problem with the whole idea of "body sculpting" and suchlike, if people get a kick out of it, it certainly doesn't harm me. I personally am not interested in anything severe, and prefer the look of unmanipulated humanity (usually) but can see how a cool looking mod could be kinda interesting. Pointy ears, maybe? Hairy hobbit-feet? Fangs? I can foresee a time when minor cosmetic modifications could become commonplace. I'll probably still remain a natural, though. YMMV.

If it makes a person feel better about themslves, and they are willing to spend the money, more power to them. Not everyone was blessed with my looks, but now through modern medicine they can become *almost* as attractive.

No one calls a man crazy who buys a new Corvette or a mansion on the water. Why call him crazy for wanting to improve his body? Just because your too lazy to excersize doesn't make you a bad person.

You know.. if I didn't have enough money for a car, I'd probably walk to school, or even take *shrug* public transportation. But having the money to make my own life easier doesn't make me lazy.
Just like with this man, he has enough money to afford these implants, spending the money is a short-cut so that he doesn't have to workout. If he didn't have the money, he'd probably workout too get the muscles he wants. Its no different than buying your food in the grocery store as opposed to growing it/hunting for it yourself. People should mind their own damn business, and stop being hypocrites.

I don't think it has much to do with self-esteem issues either. Especially since he can publically admit that he's getting the implants. He doesn't have low self-esteem, he just has a mental picture of what he wants to look like, and hes using his own money to achieve it. It definately doesn't make im less of a person, but *IMHO* it makes you less of a person if you judge him for it.

Personally, I don't care what people look like, as long as they're not disgustingly fat or ugly. Cosmetic surgery is okay for the people who desperately need it (burn victims, people with deformities etc.) but the kind of madness that goes on in Hollywood etc. is just pathetic. Michael Jackson and Cher have more plastic on them than a truck full of Tupperware. That just makes me sick.

I guess where I see the problem is in the fact that a person would see that as being important enough to spend the money and take the risk of surgery for something as absurd as a larger looking calf muscle.......

It's beyond my ability to comprehend the need for such a superficial expression of (lack of) self worth.

Yeah whatever. Self-esteem can't be bought anyway. That's something done for "other-esteem" because someone's vanity says people don't like the way he/she looks. Please don't confuse the two. To reitterate, self-esteem comes from inside "I'm ok just the way I am" and never wavers. "Other-esteem" comes from without when we try to please others to be accepted.

When you have freedom, theres no such thing as a collective. People can make choices for themselves.
Money belongs to a person, the doctors time belongs to himself. Not a collective. We're free here, to make our own decissions, our own choices, not to be forbidden to think for ourselves.

This is a pretty hot topic. IMO cosmetic surgery is fine. I don't have much respect for people who get breast implants. I think too that there is immense pressure from society. The image of the perfect body is on television, magazines. For some they might feel that they have to have a perfect shape to be accepted. I just feel that women who get breast implants are achiving the opposite effect. People will talk about them more in a negative light. But like I say it is a very hot topic with numerous view points.

I have huge calves whether I want them or not. I was never a light person, but when I started high school, the weight piled on, I was eating too much of the wrong and not enough of the right, and not getting enough exercise. Carrying that weight around each and every day for 6-7 years really built up and sculpted the calf muscles. If you wanna talk in terms of inches, their about 22-24 inches around at their widest point.

Personally, I would never get cosmetic surgery (although when I used to get really depressed about my weight I seriously considered liposuction, now I'm actaully doing something aobut it and doing quite well, I have lost 10 Kg of fat, and gained about 4 Kg of muscle in 6 weeks though eating right and a shit load of exercise), but saying to someone that htey can't have the surgery is like saying to them, you can't say that, it's the truth. People have the right to make their own decisions, and opne of those decisions is about elective surgery, if they want it, and they can afford it, then they can get it. if they feel like mutilating themselves, it's their choice, no one else's.
