Hi All,
I was wondering what happened to some of the old familiar faces and if anyone knows what's going on with...

I know I'm leaving a bunch out, but yeah my head doesn't work as well as it used too hahaha
Sorry I'm a bit out of touch, but I'd love to know how life's been treating all of you!

Hey, Jeni. long time no hear. Hope you`re well and at least content.
Except for twItch^'s pregnancies, and seeing Emps on ICQ now and then, the rest of those people have evaporated, as far as I know.
nice to see you have such an open rapport with you Senator, Steven.
Awesome to get to hear from all of you! How is EVERYONE? Life is good here. Big changes in the last couple of years but all for the better. Damn it feels like it's been a long time...I'm betting your girls are getting old DL! You still in Tejas bob? I need to make it back out to Denver some time soon Steve. You doing any design work these days?
I'm glad to see you are all still around. I missed this place and the people I got to know
Oh, Jeni, my design skills are so out of date, I still use a chisel and granite, though I still have to design stuff from time to time. Mostly I program. It's safer for my brain.
And yes, you should make it down to Denver again. I can show you my motorcycle and take you for a *ahem* ride.
Chisel and granite eh? Yeah you know, I'm not far behind ya hahahaha. Motorcycle???? Nice! I actually rode/drove my first jetski this summer and it was really fun! We'll definitely be making it out to Colorado in the next year or two (my fiance and I)!
Hey Curtis! Of course I remember you! Still in NC, though in the RTP area now and changed jobs twice since then actually...These days I work for the NIEHS (part of the NIH). I went from foot stuff to science. I tell you this gal just can't get enough excitement hahaha. I'm actually really learning a lot! You still in NC too?

No, Jeni, I`m back in the midwest, now. Moved back here to be closer to the kids and Grandmonsters. Working in a gravel quarry operating a bulldozer and/or a haul truck.
A bulldozer eh? I do have to say I am VERY jealous
God time passes by so quickly. Teenagers? Damn I do not envy having to live with a teenage girl...LOL. Hang in there!
I am doing desktop publishing for the monthly journal, called Environmental Health Perspectives. It's been a nice break from design work but I'm getting antsy with staring at Adobe Garamond 9.5/10.5 text and mathmatical equations all day. I think I'm ready to do some design again. Learning a lot about environmental stuff though. Pretty scary actually. Basically everything can make you sick or give you cancer...Thank goodness I'm not a hypochondriac...hahaha
I'm still milling about. I spent a few years working up and down the east coast (of Australia) on various multimedia projects but have recently settled (and sold out) to a local entertainment company making casual games. Generally too busy with everything else to post, but my wandering eyes still find their way back every now and then.
I'm still lurking, off and on that is (mostly off though).
I'm not in the webdesign business anymore, sort of.
Nah who am I kidding, I'm even neglecting my personal site to the point of no return, havn't even gotten it up on a new server when the old one died :shame on me:: ...
I'm currently manager of a small R&D Lab within a development section for bwin's Stockholm office.
Here we work with finding new and cool things in and around online poker.
The main brand we work with is www.pokerroom.com and the visual stuff from my group can be found in the {BETAH} section inside our community, Pokah (registration needed, sorry).
But some of our minigames can be reached directly:

I don't count as an old timer yet .. but I do pop in occasionally to see if anyone is keeping the pong table clean .... just in case I'm a grandpa 3 times over and commuting between Holland and Spain working for the Space Agency. My old coding and design/photomanip skills are still managing to pay the mortgage, but now Mrs Trib has a thriving Pilates Studio too ... Life is fine.

Michael and I still hang out. Weadah was in the picture about a year back, but has since disappeared again. I also keep up tabs on DarkGarden now an then.
Damn guys...just damn. Good to see you're alive and well! After a little hunting, I found Peter and saw up until earlier this year he was still makin music.
Michael, I thought I found you elsewhere online too, but I wasn't positive it was you due to the amount of hair hahaha. Was it you and are congrats in order?
That's a hilarious photo Andre (one which I had completely forgotten about). Thanks for digging it up and thanks even more for saving it hahaha. It's making me miss my old red hair!

Shiii - She still hangs around, doesn't she? and others
I have spanish nationality since 2 years ago, I'm not an Illegal Alien anymore =( - Yeah, I liked it =P -

Huge hugs all round.
I'm in the same boat as Tao here. It's cool seeing all these 'golden oldies' pop in again. I remember back when I lurked (and still after I joined), just being amazed at the sheer amount of talent that collected here. Quite an impressive place

I moved to Ohio in May.
I had plans to visit my mother back in NH for the upcoming holidays, but instead she wants to come out here.
Soooo... not sure when I'll be back in that area.
Wow - definitely a group hug, but I agree with the clothing hahaha
Michael - Have you been to Cedar Pointe yet???? Too fun. How's the adjustment to civilian life going? My fiance got back from overseas in June...I never really realized how different those 2 world really were!
No, I haven't been to Cedar Pointe. It's about 3 hours north from where we are... but even with that short distance, I don't think I'll be going there anytime soon. (I'm not much of a fan of roller coasters.. and neither is Jennie, my wife)
The adjustment has been............. interesting?
I suppose it's a little different for everyone. I was very bitter about some things as I walked out of the military's door. And while I still speak with friends that are still living that life, I feel (happily) detached from it. I don't think about it often at all. The first time I thought about it after I was actually out, was about 2 months later. I suppose that just means I made the right decision for me.
There's some things I do miss about it... there's no denying.
Those things are a part of something/someone I used to be though... that make up part of who I am now I guess. Or something like that.
Apologies to the new 'regulars' around the Asylum that have to see the burning capsule lit up every time a few of us pop back into this post just to chat.
I thought it'd be worth mentioning that I don't dabble in PS nearly at all anymore. Someone mentioned WoW earlier in the thread... and that's what I use to soak my time, commonly. While that may be nearing it's end for me... it's been there for 2+ years now. heh. Kinda odd.
Ah yes, well if the coasters aren't your thing, then avoid it. Unless of course you get a thrill from being in ridiculously crowded places hahaha.
It seems like it can be a difficult transition to make (understandably so), but it does sound like you made the right choice. I'm happy for you and for your wife! Did you meet in the military or were you doing the long distance thing? Sorry I'm so full of questions everyone, I'm just happy to get the chance to catch up with all of you!!!!!
I'm not into roller coasters, either, but I love Cedar Point. I go straight to the arcades. Last time we were at Cedar Point, I was taking random photographs of the workers. I got some really good snaps of summer workers sweeping up trash. Also got some good snaps of the one log ride splashing water all over the place.
Cedar Point. Now. Well, maybe in the spring. And don't go during the weekend if you can avoid it.
No, I haven't been to Cedar Pointe. It's about 3 hours north from where we are
Michael,
It sounds to me as if you and I are fairly close. Maybe we should try to get together some time. (I'm in southeastern Indiana, about an hour west of Cincinnati)
Having a project vacuum, I thought I'd stop by and found this thread.
Nice to see so many old familiar faces
I don't get to play much with PS these days and my coding is ever deteriorating (not that I ever could code.. but nevermind). Other than that life is pretty OK.
Back in the web-part of the company since 6 months (about 80pounds lighter than the last time, how about that), grew my hair back and am planning for some extended holidays in the winter.
Oh, and I still do do non-digital art from time to time. Back messing around with pencil portraits, acrylics/oil and some silvercraft.
Now lets see if i remember the password so I can post this...

You're about 3 hrs away from me it looks like. Would love to get together for some drinks and chit chat at some time. Maybe we can get Jeni to join us with her new beau.
Michael, first off congradts! Secondly, Good luck with the back to schooling, I *think* I read you saying you were going back. Um... Just get it over with and try and enjoy it as much as possible. There are alot of kids there that dont know what they are in school for, however I have found that there are atleast 4 other people who really care. Find them out.
I stopped for a couple of years to work and now have been back in for a year and a half. I believe I am going to stick it out this go around. So a hearty toast to that!

Twitch, you got to use a hammer and chisel? I had to use mostly twigs and bark for my early design work, we *wished* we had chisels! Kids these days, got it so easy, grumble...
Marriage? Everybody should get married! (Not necessarily to each other, heh.) Malin and I celebrate our 5 year anniversary this May 29th, which is also my 50th birthday, which just seems... wrong somehow. I can't be 50, can I?
I spend most of my time now working with Malin on our store www.deepFLING.com - a jewelry store in North County San Diego. I still design, but not so much anymore, programming is much easier on my elderly brain, heh heh. I still do the consulting gig, though that's getting really old to me, I'm currently trying to work with a client who defaulted on my billing in a *major* way - it just seems wrong that I should still have to struggle with this shit. =/ I'm seriously considering polishing up my resume (that hasn't been needed in *years* now) and hooking up with a headhunting firm Eastridge Infotech - maybe what I need to get my head on straight is a nice boring job, urgh.
I'm also starting up another company based out of Sweden with an old buddy of mine - we're going to take a stab at some commercial real estate investing - things are still strong in places where the currency isn't rated with the same strength as toilet paper. (Yes, I'm talking about *you*, USA!)

getting a phd in computer science... and just rented a real life vintage 1780s three story, half high cellar* cottage .
Guess marriage is a bit off, me being just exactly half as old as the Doc this year

Started working on my MS in computer science a couple years ago, but work took priority, so it's on hold for now. But work is fun, we have a major part is the technology demonstrations at the ITS World Congress this fall. Also get to work on some autonomous vehicle systems which are always fun. Of course I have to put my time in on the less interesting stuff too, but all in all, it keeps me out of trouble and pays the bills

I'm glad to hear that C:\. Too often you hear about how sucky married life is and how depressing everything gets after you have been married for awhile. It's great to hear there are people who enjoy it and are happy about it. After all, that's the way it's supposed to be, right?
[edit: heh, just noticed my "status" went from 'Paranoid' to 'Maniac' between these last two posts
I didn't think it would ever change with how little I post.

Thought I would pop my head in here, and look at all the old names in this thread! Wow!
I've been laying low in these parts since the infamous client issue. I'm still doing some stuff on the side, but primary working in my first love, network engineering.
I contributed to a book on Exchange due out on June 1st.
The wife and I will be married 8 years in August, with our first grandchild due in July. And I'm only 41! Figure that one out!
I crawl back here when I'm looking for a quality forum to come to with my burning questions. I'm the most curious what the Doc has been up to. I should run a search on his name. I bet the last post he made was years ago.
[edit]Oh.. Seeing that there are many more pages here, I'm all caught up! This really has been a good forum lurking. I miss the vibe of you all. For anyone wondering, I dropped a large number of projects, only have one more year of college left, and am slowly making a big portfolio type thing over at rgbk.org [/edit]
Hi all, and esp hi Doc
Been ages, glad to hear all is well!
And marriages & kids all over the place, congrats all!
I guess we all grow up, at least counting in years
I'm still not married at 43 yrs, but me and the lady are well into our 19th year together and 3 kids so not much difference from the m-word
Workwise I'm still in the online poker biz running a lab where we do secret, cool & new stuff.
Hobbywise almost no coding anymore which I got a rude reminder on when our simracing team asked for help on their new result tracking site...
I was asked to help with some PHP OOP code for database management and I thought that it would be a piece of cake since I still have my code generator. It turned out it needed some tweaking to work properly and boy I did realize that you forget a LOT in 4 years
I really need to get my site up again, still got the domain but lost the hosting a while ago...
Oh well, all in good time.
B well all 'til the next time!

hey all .. so nice to see many old inmates .. as for me well .. married (#2) .. first child .. our little girl is now 6 weeks old and lovely! .. not doing programming/web design as much any more but I'm an Engineer for an interior design firm in SoCal .. LOVE MY JOB .. life is just great for me and my wife right now
Doc .. your in SD now?
I'll try and frequent a little more often .. but tis good to see this place .. good times here
'tis i peeking in .. greetings and congratulations to the married, almost married, working, unemployed, new parents and all the familiar faces. wow, the joy passing through here is a balm for the spirit. i know if i list names i'll leave someone out. thanks for sharing all those pics!
going back to school was fun - i discovered this place not sure my memory is ready to finish a degree, though i heartily recommend it for those considering the rigors of learning how to learn again . for myself i've had a few jobs, no more preschool teaching, but mostly small creative projects and caring for the elderly.
time online mostly spent playing games. i'm not ready to take up quilting, but i do find strategy games are good for the mind.
hi doc, so glad you've kept this place alive!
got a new comp as a gift. anyone know how to retrieve an icq passwd? who remembers such things when you use the same comp for a long time? going berserk trying to recall the passwds. which remind me of something one of my instructors said. i have no problem with memory storage, only retrieval
You know, it just occurred to me after reading all these posts about new things happening in peoples lives... I don't think I mentioned that I recently started a new job myself. This semester (from the beginning of March) I started teaching Korean-English translation at the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (boy, that's a mouthful). After all these years of study, I'm finally a professor! I have yet to get my Ph.D., but with luck that will happen either this year or next.
Then again, maybe I did mention it and then forgot about it. Who knows. My brain is fried these days.
I've learned that "qualification" may mean a number of different things. I may not have the piece of paper yet, but experience has taught me much about the joys of electricity and the human body.
It's been a long time. Glad to see a lot of the old faces popping in.
Got fired from my long time job last March. It gave me the push I needed to go back to school. I finished my classes last week and am now preparing for my certifications in administrative medical asst. and professional medical billing and coding. Wish me success!
Awesome to see EVERYONE! Lots of life changes all around. For those who want to keep in touch, I'm blogging and have recent posts on my nuptials from almost 2 weeks ago here. Great to see all of you! That jewelry is gorgeous Doc!
I've been thinking about popping my head back in here for a while, I guess with this "old timers" thread this is a good time to say HELLO once again.
My wife (LdyDiva) and I are still together after 13 years (a few rough spots but we've made it), and our brick & mortar store is still going well. We've bought the commercial building where it's located. And we are looking at opening a new retail store soon.
It's good to see many of the old faces stopping back in. The Asylum is a great oasis.
It's really nice reading up on everyone and how their lives have changed. So much wonderful news. In addition to my already busy lifestyle I now own two beach front stores that sale antique and estate items. I travel a good bit in search of items for my stores which I LOVE !
Waves a big generic hello back to Jeni, Amerasu, Shiii and all you other old time lovers. This is a lovely warm and fuzzy thread to lay down in for a while.

Finally back in these halls again after a way too long trip on the outside. Life is good for me. Finished my studies (for now at least), and now work as a web developer. The best thing about not studying any more is that I finally have time to use my evenings for my own code projects (and hanging out here again!)
